As we all headed to the cottage, something about this village gave me chills. "I am not easily spooked!" It was dreary and very unwelcoming by the townspeople. "So this is Wolfwater?" I Thought. I just gruffed.
The townspeople all looked down to the ground, their eyes giving you a glance here and there. They were aloof and did not like strangers in their town by the look they all had on their faces.
As we all walked to Murbil's cottage, I noticed, Safiya looking about seemingly, curious about the village. I caught up to her, She was at the front of the group. I tapped her on the shoulder.
She turns around to me, looking a bit worried. "Safiya." I said, softly, to make her feel at ease.
I shook her hand. "Sorry for possibly scaring you, my apologizes. "Can I ask you a question?" I mumbled softly. "What do you think about Gnaabak?"
Imara turned to me, staring right in my eyes and said, "He is not to be trusted, nobody is to be trusted here! There is a very dark ambient mystical energy all over this town and its got me rattled to the bone!"
She disappeared. I stood there for a while. I was shook up from how Safiya answered my question. I asked myself, "What have I got myself into?"
Noticing a man along the way, I Asked, "Is there anywhere we can get food?" As I approached A weathered older man. He just grumbled "I don't know." And He fled.
I was starved from our journey. "Does food even exist here!" I said out loud. I felt frustrated and weak from not eating.
I looked down at the path. We were all walking vigilantly. The path was overgrown with a lot of moss, and the dew had set in on the moss, and the weathered path in town. All the surroundings here in Wolfwater were very rugged and not taken care of.
There were many children around playing and running about the town. "The innocence of children." I thought. Making me think of my little sister and how much I missed her. "I hope she is doing well, both her and My Mother."
Finally, We reached Murbil's cottage. The cottage was small, yet it gave you a welcoming feel for some reason.
Approaching it, there were lots of plants and flowers that you could tell had been seen after well, but wilting.
Katia was outside inspecting the surroundings of the cottage, in silence.
I found her to be aloof from the rest of us. She had reached the cottage first, apparently. I walked up to her quietly. She seemed to be focused on the grounds of the cottage.
I went up to her saying, "It's very quiet around here." She turned to me, saying, "Yes, too quiet for my liking, actually, so I see everyone has made it to the cottage." She said. I looked around and noticed the group huddled together, talking.
Everyone was outside. I heard someone raising their voice about something. I walked over hesitantly, to the others. I asked, "What is this all about?"
I approached Seth asking, "What is that in your hand?" Seth replied, "This is some sort of pages from a book, I found rumbling through the bin in the back. "I Think, from what I can tell, They are from some book of magic."
I thought, "Well, I know nothing of this magic he's rambling on about. Maybe, It's something he can use.
Right now, I just want to find something to eat!"
Suddenly, I saw someone coming up the path to the cottage. It was that half-orc, Gnaabak! I asked myself, "Ok, What is he doing here?" I didn't especially like this, Gnaabak, particularly too much, he seemed untrustworthy, and he smelled of fish.
I heard him talking to Markus. His voice raised, as if he were very mad about something.
I walked over to them, Saying to the half-orc, "No need in talking so loud and being so mad at Markus, What is the problem?" Gnaabak had his hands in the air waving, madly and kept yelling.
Now he was yelling at everyone about us getting what we need and leave.
I, angrily said to him, "Be gone!, We will do as you wish. We will be gone in the morning! We need supplies! We need sleep and food!" "So, just go!" He wouldn't budge.
I drew my sword, not to hurt him. I said, "Just leave us in peace, so we can do what we need to do here!"
The half-orc, appologized, and said, "Sorry, Get what you need then, and please be gone at sunrise, in the morning."
I put my sword away and walked into the cottage. My temper was still flaring!
Frieda walked up to me. She says to me, "I know your tired, hungry, and need sleep." "Teagan, We all are. "Now lets go and look in the cupboards for food."
I noticed how the cottage looked on the inside. It was dusty and smelt musky. There remaining furnishings and wall coverings were warm and comforting to the eye.
She was rather calming. She and I walked over rummaging through the cupboards. We found enough food for all of us to have, and extra for our journey.
I apologized for my behaviour and for drawing my sword. She smiled, Saying, "It's ok, Just eat and rest, Teagan."
I plopped down on the floor to start eating. I hit the wall, and something comes crashing down to the floor! Marcus and Seth come running over, they start discussing this thing, calling it a tome.
The only thing I saw was a large book of some kind. "Hmm, seems important to them." Seth starts talking about the markings and symbols on the book.
He says, "This is striking to me, look at these symbols and markings!" As he opened the book He looked enthralled. He says, "Look! It shows here what Beargrim was talking about!" It has a description here of A Providence Eye like the one you found, Marcus."
I thought, "When did Marcus find some eye?" What are they talking about!, an eye?" I hear them talking about a mummified eye! From where I come from there is no such thing as a mummified eye! I Shrug.
Marcus and Seth come over to me closer, seeing I am confused. They start telling me more. I listen as Seth says, "Teagan, the tome is a great finding for us, it shows important symbols that are vital to what Beargrim was talking about, such as these markings." He scampered around excitedly.
He says, "I must go through this tome, because its a great finding!" He left and found a cozy corner to investigate the tome more.
"Marcus." I said, come here. "What are these findings you were discussing with Seth you found?" "I guess I was too busy trying to find food and arguing with that half-orc to even realize anything."
Markus, patiently telling me, "I am the one who found the mummified eye on a pendant with a necklace, the pendant is made of some kind of volcanic glass that's formed around a mummified eye!, and I found a gold coin.
He says, "Teagan, These are all very important to what Beargrim was describing to us!" He said, enthusiastically. He scurried off and starting rummaging through the cottage.
I fell asleep, waking up to Seth and his rambling, loudly. He still had that book, and looked as if he had not slept a bit. I hear him saying "Yes, Yes, Exactly, Exactly!"
"Exactly what?" I am thinking and frustrated from being woke up. He scurried off into his own world cuddled up a corner, again.
I went outside to see what Katia was doing. Darius and Katia were busy scouting the grounds outside the cottage. I called them both over. I Asked, "What do you two think about this mummified eye Marcus found?"
Darius says, "Marcus found a what?" I said. "A mummified eye pendant of some sort, he's all worked up about it. He is making me nervous with all his rummaging about too." Katia chirps in, "Well, He is a Rogue."
I walk along the grounds with Katia and Darius. Frieda walks out, looking very concentrated on something. You could tell she was deep in thought and very quiet.
"Frieda. I said, Are you alright?"
She says "No, I just have this overwhelming feeling something is just not right around here. This is a very dark place and I think We should all get going as soon as the sun rises!"
I knew of her sensing things, but she sounds so serious, I think She is right! Since arriving here in Wolfwater, I have not felt at ease at all. That half-ocr is up to no good, I just know it!
Frieda says, "Teagan, I know what your thinking about the half-orc, and your right!"
"How did she know what I was thinking? I said to myself."
We all decided to get some sleep, sunrise was only a few hours away. We all collected supplies for the journey before we all fell asleep and discussed everything that happened. Everyone felt tired and out of sorts with all the findings and happening of the day.
Waking up, I found Darius outside talking to a deer. With spending so much time in the forest I missed all my little creature friends, especially seeing Darius talking to that deer.
Darius called all of us outside. He says, "My Friend here says there is a cave nearby. We need to be leaving, its daylight now. I suggest we trust this friend of mine and head off to the cave."
I said, "Katia, Why don't you lead us?"
Katia says, "Yes, Let's go!
We all gathered together and left. I felt this experience really bonded all of us for what lies ahead!
