“Welcome, have a seat,” you say, escorting the two women and their three children into your home. You think all three are girls though one has very short red curls and one wears a baseball cap under which only a hint of blond hair is visible.

“Thank you for seeing us,” Aitana Villareal flips her long ponytail over her shoulder as she sits.

“Yes, we know it’s short notice,” her wife, Agnes Rey, agrees. A headband keeps her blond hair out of her face. “I hope you don’t mind that we brought Lorena, Brigida and Tonya with us.”

“It’s no trouble at all; I had a cancellation. And it’s perfectly fine,” you say, smiling “Now, can I help you?”

“We just bought an old barn at the edge of town,” Aitana replies. “We would like some help fixing it up and turning it into a home.”

Agnes nods eagerly. “We want to maintain some of the rustic elements - you know, columns, barn doors, exposed beams - but to update the interior enough to make it comfortable. As much of the original structure must be preserved as possible.”

“We’re thinking an open floor plan on the lower level, with a nice kitchen for Agnes - “

“And a fireplace for Aitana.” Agnes gives her wife a loving smile.”

“Don’t forget, you said we could have the loft as a playroom, Mom, Mama.” the girl wearing the baseball cap interrupts.

“Shush, Lorena, we were getting to that,” Aitanaa scolds gently. “Sorry. We were thinking the girls could have a playroom upstairs near their bedrooms, if possible.”

“I think we can handle that,” you promise.

“All of us love outdoor activities, so if you could keep that in mind while designing the backyard, that would be great,” Anges says.

“Of course. Do you have a color scheme in mind?”

“We like most colors. Wood tones with touches of bright colors like blue, yellow and green would be perfect,” Aitana replies.

“But not pink. I hate pink,” the young girl who most resembles Aitana declares.

“No pink, understood,” you say seriously, before turning your attention back to her mothers. “What is your budget?”

“$130,000,” Aitana replies.

“Excellent. We’ll have your new home ready for you in one month.”


THE BRIEF


Budget: 130,000
Lot size: 30x20 or larger.
Build a barndominium style house. The exterior must be obviously based on a barn.
The house should have at least three bedrooms plus a playroom for the girls.
The first floor should have an open floor plan with a nice kitchen and at least one fireplace.
Include at least two bathrooms.
Landscape - include lots of outdoor activities.


Sim Challenge

Create the Rey-Villareal family. You can pick all traits, aspirations, likes and dislikes - remember one of the girls dislikes pink. Create outfits suited for spending time outside. Show the family enjoying their new home.


Room Challenge

Create the girls’ new playroom. Budget: $10,000

ENTRY DETAILS: This is a barndominium built into a three bay machine shed. The main floor is open and kind of industrial to go with the galvanized steel walls. Upstairs are a playroom, two children's bedrooms, a family bathroom and primary suite. Per the family's request, I have used yellow, green and blue. The outdoor space is designed for a busy active family who like the spend time outside.

ENTRY DETAILS:
After having bought a barn to renovate into their new home, this is the girls' playroom. The fence to the empty wall in the playroom to make it look like a loft that has a new drywall behind it to reduce noise from the children’s playroom to the rest of the house. They painted the old door to the playroom in a fun pattern but made sure to leave some spots unpainted for a more rustic look.

ENTRY DETAILS: A Captivating custom contemporary Home was created from the old barn .It is now ready for it's new owners to come make it shine even brighter.
As you enter through the double front doors you are immediately taken by the natural light, exposed beams & open floor plan.
The large eat-in Country kitchen features a center island bar, with tons of cabinet space and easy access to the rear patio. The first floor offers two sitting areas, kitchen, formal dining room, office, & a full bath. The grand sitting room has a cathedral ceiling & a wood burning fireplace as requested.
Upstairs you'll find 3 light filled bedrooms & a laundry room . The primary bedroom has an ensuite bath, a small office, and sliders to a private balcony. The other 2 bed rooms are connected by a Jack n Jill bath , with a Play room at the end of the hall in the loft. All with a color scheme with touches of Wood tones & soft bright colors like blue, yellow and green.
Outside All of the original structure with it's rustic elements, has been preserved.
The landscaping was cleaned up. There are lots of outdoor activities for this Family.

#BnS166 - Fall Designer Showdown

The deadline for this challenge is 31 October 2022

It’s time to show us your spooky builds!

For this fall designer showdown, your client is some sort of occult often associated with spookiness and Halloween: an alien, a ghost, a vampire, a werewolf or a witch. You may of course build for one or all of them if you want to.

Choose one of the towers in the screenshot below to build your house around. You can use it wherever and as often as you want. The tower’s wall and foundation height and size can be changed as needed. Walls can be removed to join the tower to other rooms - no more than 2 if you’re using a square or rectangle, up to half for circles and octagons. Windows and doors can be added anywhere. CC is allowed. Yes, you can use cc to create goblins, fairies, ogres, etc.

THE BRIEF


Budget: No budget this time
Lot size: 30x20 or larger.
Must have at least one bedroom, one bath, and the usual roomos a house needs.
If you’re building for a witch, make sure to include a room for practicing magic and creating potions. (Yes those of you who like tormenting your sims can give the vampire a basement full of cells.)
Landscape! Keep it spooky, but remember to build in summer. If you really want to, you can include autumn screenshots. At least one nighttime exterior shot would be nice but not required.

#BnS167 - Revival

The deadline for this challenge is 30 November 2022

The woman who steps into your office with her bright smile and even brighter red hair the color of the autumn leaves falling past your window is a welcome sight on such a cold, gray day.

“Hello. Millicent Rogers, right?”

“Yes, but please call me Millie. No one calls me Millicent,” she says.

“Of course, I apologize. How can I help you?”

“I just inherited my great-grandmother’s house and garden. The house is a mess, so I would like some help renovating and restoring it. If you think it should be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up, I’ll accept that,” Millie Rogers replies.

“I’m happy to help. Will you want to keep the original style?”

“No, that’s all right. I know the place could use some updating. There are just a few pieces I want to save. It’s the gardens I’m more concerned about. They were special to my great-grandmother and to me, so I really want to restore them.”

“We can help with that too,” you assure her.

“Can you? Oh, thank you! It’s a bigger project than I thought it would be.” She smiles again, relieved.

“We can, and you’re very welcome. What’s your budget?”

“Oh well, Great-gran was very wealthy, so I’ve $250,000 to spare for this project.”

“That’s very generous. Do you have any color preferences?”

Millie thinks for a minute. “Anything, so long as it’s not too dark.The original house had three bedrooms, and I’d like to keep that number. I don’t need much space since there’s just me.”

“All right, we’ll keep that in mind.” You stand to walk her to the door, preparing to leave for the day yourself.

Features a 3 bedroom, 1 bath, with a lovely sunroom, private office, and a special garden to remember her great-grandmother. She kept a few items from the estate, a desk, grandfather clock, bookcase, and she had the kitchen stove and refrigerator restored to new.

Entry Details: Grandma left her prized three bed cottage to her creative granddaughter Millie because she knew she would bring fresh life to it while preserving the things that really matter (like her biscuit tin collection). Millie updated Memory Lane with an extension overlooking the garden but otherwise kept much of grandma’s style/house intact. She even kept the bedrooms she and her sibling stayed in as children, updating them for her niece and nephew to use when they visit (kids don’t like lead paint nowadays).

Millie recently inherited her wealthy great-grandmother's house and garden. Luckily, she also inherited her great-grandmother's wealth because Millie loves to be fashionable and only wears high-end clothing. She can be a bit snobby but she just considers it good taste. As an ambitious perfectionist, Millie has big plans for her inherited home and property.
She also spoils her little Bichon Frisé, Missy, rotten. It's a good thing she has a large and peaceful backyard to even out Missy's tendency to be vocal and playful. She's also been so sheltered by Millie that she's a bit jumpy too.

ENTRY DETAILS: Great-grandmother's Home & gardens have been restored. Lovely 3-bedroom old-fashioned English cottage. The home was renovated & restored to its original style, with some updates. It was decided when Millie Rogers, Toured the home with our demolition team, it brought up all her warm & fuzzy memories from her childhood. That she felt so comfortable & loved here.
The home was power washed on the outside and painted the original color from childhood photos of Millie's. The interior (with elbow grease) was cleaned & repainted & wallpapered. With slight updates to the bathrooms and kitchen. Millie also -reupholstered the original living room couches. The grandfather clocks were restored along with many beloved personal pieces of her great-grandmothers. Millie herself with a little help from the landscapers restored the garden to perfection.

I decided to restore this beautiful Victorian home rather than building new, as the structure of the home was still in good shape. I kept it's original style but updated and modernized the interior of the home. The interior of the home has a unique style that I like to call "classic feminine glamour" There are plenty of bold wall papers, pinks and golds, and florals throughout the home giving this home quite the luxurious feel. There are many of Great Gram's treasures throughout the home and I have cleaned up the gardens around the property which really makes this home come alive.

#BnS168 - Winterfest Market

The deadline for this challenge is 31 December 2022

Those of you who have been around for a while may remember Whimsyville, our last Sims 4 neighborhood challenge.

This is a scaled-down version of that, with only one phase: Community lots. Specifically, community lots geared toward holiday shopping. Any holiday you like so long as it’s winter themed - Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, anything else you can think of or invent. Use your creativity.

Please read through the entire list of possible buildings before picking one to build. Then post which building you would like to build. First post gets the building - please look at the list of claimed buildings in the front-page post AND the current posts in the thread requesting a build before posting a claim. Once the sign-up period has ended, and you have completed your build; you can always pick a second one to do and claim it. If there is enough interest, a second, residential phase may happen.

Due to the community nature of this challenge, there will be no judging or podium awards given.


THE BRIEF


We are going to use Newcrest for all of our community lots - specify which Newcrest lot you built on in your entry form
Since every lot has very different needs, the budget is unlimited
Each community lot needs some parking space and landscaping
Use any size lot that makes sense for your build. Note that since Twin Oracle Point is so large, it can be multipurpose.

ENTRY DETAILS: I decided to make my clothing store look like an old department store. It is decorated with a glamourous vintage style, using plenty of gold and white with many Christmas decorations displayed inside and outdoors as well. There is parking in the back but I have added an underground parking garage for those sims who don't want to deal with the cold weather. There is a security office, as well as an owners office in case there are some long nights at the store. When you enter the store there is a large Christmas tree surrounded by gifts that people have donated for those less fortunate. When you head up to the second level there is a place to get your picture taken with Santa/Father Winter. This floor is also where you will find children's and men's clothing as well. The third floor is exclusive to women's fashion. Each floor has small change rooms to try on an outfit you may be interested in buying.

ENTRY DETAILS: I made my grocery store like the modern self contained small ones near where I live and not a big chain store. I tried to provide a range of things that would be helpful to gameplay eg. simple living ingredients, preprepared meals and high skill level cooking / baking items. Stacking the shelves and placing the items took forever. I wish Grocery stores were their own type of lot with shopping trolleys and sims able to buy multiple things in a shop.

ENTRY DETAILS: For the Winter Designer Showdown I have taken the empty shell of a house and turned it into a mid-Century modern family home. I added a roof and extended it to create a carport addition. I also added platforms throughout the house, giving the bedrooms and kitchen shorter wall space. This created a unique view into the dining room from the kitchen when I added a half wall divider. With the extra money allotted I was able to give the family so many wonderful outdoor activities to enjoy, which included a pool. Perfect for Oasis Springs!

#BnS170 - Forbidden Love

The deadline for this challenge is 28 February 2023

The young couple who enter your office look both nervous and determined somehow. You do your best to set them at ease with a friendly smile. “Come in, sit down,” you say.

“Thank you. I’m Sandalio Villalobos and this is my fiancee Selene Moon,” the man says in a deep voice. He sits, angling his body to block the sunlight falling through the window. Only once the other chair is in shadow does Selene sit, dodging the spill of sunlight on the floor.

“What can I do for you?” you ask.

Selene holds your gaze. “I suppose we should tell you right now, if you agree to help us, you might find yourself unpopular with both Werewolves and Vampires. Neither of our families approve of our relationship or our plan to marry. They don’t understand our love.”

“Or believe it’s real.” A growl underlies Sandalio’s words.

Selene squeezes his hand. “Calm down, you can’t go into a fury here,” she whispers.

“I’ll try.” He looks back at you. “If you’d rather not build us a home, we understand.”

“Oh, I’m willing to help, don’t worry. What did you have in mind?”

“Three bedrooms in case we have guests or decide to expand our family someday and a basement,” Selene says.

“I would like a den with big windows so I can see the outdoors,” Sandalio adds.

“A man-cave. Or should that be wolf-cave?” Selene smiles at him.

You nod, making notes. Building a house to meet the needs of two very different clients will be a challenge. Maybe there’s a reason their love is forbidden? But it’s not your place to judge. “Do you have any other requirements?”

“Just don’t make it shabby. Please. I don’t know where that idea came from,” Sandalio says.

“And it can’t be in Forgotten Hollow or Moonwood Mill. We both want plenty of trees for privacy,” Selene adds.

“All right. This should all take about a month. May I ask where you’re staying in the meantime?”

“With friends. Thank you for your concern,” Sandalio replies.

You nod and see them out, already planning their home.

“Hello,” your latest client says, smoothing his neatly pressed business suit. “I”m Thomas Renteria of Community Living. I just bought up a new lot and I’d like you to design and build the houses I have in mind for it,”

You like that he gets right to the point, but one word catches your attention. “Houses? Plural?”

“Yes. Building one house on a large lot is so inefficient when there are so many homeless sims out there, don’t you think?” Mr. Renteria asks.

“Yes, I suppose so. Are we talking about apartment buildings then?”

“Oh, no, just a fourplex - four attached homes, each with their own separate entrance, driveway, and yards.”

You listen closely, taking notes. “Do you have a particular style in mind?”

“No, I’m leaving that up to you. Each unit will have an open floor plan with a combined kitchen, living and dining room and 3 bedrooms upstairs.”

“And should all units be identical?” you ask.

Mr. Renteria shakes his head. “I would prefer that each be individual, though with some common design and layout elements. Same style, different colors. Maybe one has two couches while another has a sectional sofa, for example.”

“I understand. It will be tight, but I think we can finish this project on time,” you say.
Mr. Renteria smiles, relaxing. “Good. I already have buyers lined up for the first four units.”

ENTRY DETAILS: When Mr. Renteria showed me the lot and explained what he wanted, he was thinking we'd tear down the old warehouse that had been sitting abandoned on the lot for years. After taking a look around, I showed Mr. Renteria my plan and he loved it! I was hoping that using the old structure would save us some money, but between the window and door replacements, plus adding skylights and various repairs, it didn't end up being any cheaper. Mr. Renteria's idea of keeping them all in the same style definitely made things cheaper though! I was able to buy furniture, flooring, and even wall coverings at a bulk discount! All of the units share very similar floor plans, with the front two and back two each being a mirrored pair. Since I wanted the families to be able to do their own decorating, I left them plenty of space to do so and even hung blank picture frames that they can fill with artwork or photos. The only exception to this is the kids bedrooms, which are decorated as requested by the families.
Notes from the builder: I live in a townhouse that's quite similar to the brief, so my initial plan was to base my build on where I live (just with 4 units instead of 30-something). I got to work on that, but it just wouldn't come together. The exterior was weird and boxy, the roof looked off no matter what I did, and I couldn't figure out a sensible floor plan. So I decided to try starting over with something totally different. I got the idea for a converted old warehouse/factory and I'm really happy with how it came together! The only disappointing thing is that I couldn't find a lot matching what I wanted. The one I settled on at least has the right vibe, even though the area directly surrounding it doesn't fit as well. I have a picture and explanation of what I was looking for in my slideshow.
This was a really fun challenge for me once I got a build I was happy with. I intentionally avoided adding clutter and decorations since the families haven't moved in yet. This was definitely a challenge where I played with color a lot, especially since I limited my wall and floor swatches to keep continuity between the units. I gave each unit a distinct color scheme. I also tried to use most of the furniture pieces and rugs in multiple units, and I kept my selection especially limited in the downstairs open areas so that those match in every unit.

After the Arts Center in San Myshuno burned to the ground, Thomas Renteria bought the lot to build a new four plex to house four homeless Sim families. The Foote family is one of the four families who would like to purchase one of the lot's homes. This is the fish-loving Foot family's great room. The walk to the Spice District to fish at the pier and cook many creative fish dishes.The two children love fishing too!

Backstory:
The Foote family is quite an eclectic bunch, although, they do share some traits and all four love the colors, red, white and blue, like to fish and dislike spooky music. The mother is ambitious and creative, but clumsy, the father is a bro, but creative and a perfectionist, while their daughter is a creative music-lover and their son is a creative perfectionist (who just lost his two front teeth, and Mother and daughter like to bowl.

ENTRY DETAILS: I tried to make a very modern building to fit in Lykke Center. Each house has its own color scheme, décor style and layout. However, since it was primarily built by a promoter, some elements that would have been there before sims moved in are the same, with just the color changing : floors, cabinetry, plumbing and main appliances.

ENTRY DETAILS: Mr. Rentaria is helping gentrify the Plaza in Strangerville. I built four boxy homes with front porches so they would look believable as infill in Strangerville. The houses have an open living space and three bedrooms upstairs each.
Mr.Rentaria found a cross-section of Sims one might expect to find in Strangerville to occupy his homes. A local married to a military Sim and their baby, a covert agent, a couple of conspiracy theorists, and a scientist with his science baby and his pet rat. The interiors of the homes are decorated to tell the stories of these Sims.

ENTRY DETAILS: Our fourplex - four attached homes, each with their own separate entrance, driveway, and yard. Is located in Del Sol Valley on a 50 x 40 lot called Vacuous Green. ( This was the perfect lot ( for me ) because of the driveways built into the sidewalk. outside of the lots boundaries ) Each unit has an open floor plan with a combined kitchen, living and dining room on the main floor and 3 bedrooms upstairs. The 2 end units have an extra Family room on the main floor & an ensuite bathroom in the Master Bedroom. Along with a separate washer & dryer. The 2 middle units have 1 half bath downstairs and 1 full bath upstairs. The 2 middle units have mirrored floor plans. As do the 2 end units- give & take some footage for the Kitchen & family room. I had fun with this Challenge- It was a-lot. I usually like clutter - I had to hold myself back . I feel this one built itself. I started it and it took off.. Thank you - I was not going to approach this one. But I did and am glad- It was Fun..

It’s time for another Spring Designer Showdown!

Once again we’ll be getting creative with colors! Not just bright spring colors, but they should definitely be featured.

This time you’ll download the lot below which contains 12 “Easter Eggs”.

Each egg contains eight objects all of which have a color in common. You must pick one of the eggs then build a small house using all of the items inside it. You cannot change the color. No peeking inside before choosing your egg.

The exterior colors do not necessarily reflect the colors of the objects inside. Yes, the flooring should be featured in at least one of your rooms. You don’t have to use your egg or the exterior color unless you want to.

Description:
A cozy family home owned by Skylar and Naomi Spring, passed down from Naomi’s late mother. They recently adopted a beautiful baby named Logan. This home is a lovely farmhouse craftsman. With a large first floor primary, plenty of yard space, and coordinated interior, it is a lovely space to raise the family. Description: Upon opening my egg and finding lovely green items including the lime green Ambassador toilet I knew I had to do a period style house. The floor plan and decorations are based on my Great Aunt Florence's house - exterior and gardens are my own design. It was amazing how any details came flooding back including sounds and smells as I built. She and her husband bought their ultramodern home after world war 2 - the main pieces of furniture they saved for and bought as a set from an upmarket department store and it lasted their entire lifetime. The house was full of personality and knickknacks. It is late 50s/ early 60s inside. The bathroom was fun to build.

ENTRY DETAILS: I picked the bottom red egg for this challenge. The first thing that caught my eye was the cute watermelon mat, so I drew inspiration from that to build a pink, red and green house (with some neutrals, of course). The mix of very modern and more rustic items, bright red items and pastel flowers threw me for a loop for a moment, but I decided to try mixing the styles, so I built a more traditional looking home and decorated it as if some older fixtures and valuable furniture had been kept, while newer items were brought in and some parts of the house (mainly the kitchen and basement bathroom) were fully renovated. I tried to help everything fit nicely together still through the color scheme. I hope it worked!

The Flower Bunny loves eggs so much that he lives in a house with rooms that are all shaped with eggs! It's spring, and he just purchased some bees. He painted his "eggs" to match the yellow and black of the bees' coats. His old furniture was black, so he added some new yellow furniture, as well, and it's the perfect place for his new science baby in her yellow and black nursery.

Description Earlier this month I picked an egg ( I left a comment on the Gallery as to which egg I chose at that time ) and finished a Home, only to have my 5 or so Year old laptop die on me. In creating another home (on my new laptop) I chose a different egg. ( I commented again which one I took-deleting the first comment ) I chose to build in San Sequoia. I wanted the home to blend in with the neighborhood ( Hence the modern style )- I also wanted to use the items from the 2 new kits.( Attributing to the Green house ensuite Master bath). So here we have Manzanita Terrace. It kind of built itself.. This was a Fun Challenge.

#BnS173 - Friends from College

The deadline for this challenge is 31 May 2023

You get up from your desk to greet your new clients, shaking hands firmly with the trio of young adults. Once everyone has a beverage and introduced themselves, you ask what they need to have built.

"Well," says the dark-haired George Bennett, "we rented a small house during the last year of college, and we found we get along really well together. Just beginning our professional lives, we thought we would save money and go in on a new home together."

"We love having common rooms, like the kitchen and a great room," added green-eyed Kelly Drew, "but we all also need our separate bedrooms and work spaces. We will all be working from home."

"We also all love different colors in our separate spaces and more neutrals in the common areas," commented Andy Spears, who was lounging comfortably in jeans a tee shirt.

"So what colors and what professions are we talking about?" you ask with a smile. So far everything is a bit vague.

"The artist loves bright yellow, and the writer is into hues of blue like the ocean." Andy pauses.

Kelly laughs. "And our fashion designer loves gray."

"Ahh, no shared bathrooms! That was a mess we were trying to forget at the last house. And a half bath for guests," George says.

"And we do need a laundry room." Andy thinks a few seconds. "I want a porch to hang out on, anyone else?"

"Agreed," Kelly seconds. "Not sure if we can afford it, but we do movie nights every weekend, so maybe a separate media room?" The other two nod.

"And that brings us to the budget. How much can we spend?" you ask cautiously.

"We are all putting in $75,000, so a total of $225,000." George states matter-of-factly. "We have all done tons of side jobs through college so we could have a good start in life."

"That is awesome! You three are miles ahead of the usually newly-graduated professional!" You smile at each one in turn. "I can have your new home ready in about a month. How does that sound?"

The three young people cheer at you, and you all chat and laugh as you walk them out of the office. You vaguely envy their youth with a short sigh as you head back to your design desk.

ENTRY DETAILS: I grew up in a Victorian house, which is where I drew some of the inspiration for this build. The wide hallways, open staircase, porch swing, and attic laundry room were all features of my childhood home. There are a number of different shared spaces in this build so the friends can spend time together, work outside of their individual workrooms, and entertain guests.
Highlights: Starting in the living room, the feature fireplace was pulled from my unfinished BNS172 build (that house never came together, but I'm so glad I was able to salvage the fireplace), while the shelves beside it were created for this build. Next, my goal with the media room was to create a mini movie theater and I'm so pleased with how it came together. My favorite part of the whole build is the little stump garden, which was also the very last thing I built! I found the stump in debug pretty early on and I'm so happy with the use I found for it. I also like that the outdoor spaces on that side of the house (stump garden and porch swing) are both calmer spots that are intended more for alone time, whereas the rest of the outdoor space is aimed more at socialization. Decorating a whole porch and large yard for adults was a bit of a challenge for me, but I'm happy with the different spaces I created.
Bedrooms: I had a few goals when creating these bedrooms: I wanted each to have a distinct feel in addition to the color, each workspace to be unique, and some additional interests or hobbies to be present. The writer's blue bedroom was first. I knew where I wanted the bed and, after creating that and deciding to close it off, I kept the rest of the bedroom very simple. I gave the writer the bedroom with the tower because I thought it would make a cute little traditional office space. The fashion designer's grey bedroom was next. I went with a more cluttered bathroom and workroom, and then a very minimalist aesthetic for the bedroom because I wanted it to primarily be a space to unwind and relax.
I dedicated so much of the workspace to photographing clothes because sharing pictures is how the designer is going promote their brand and build a following. The last bedroom I worked on was the artist's yellow bedroom. I knew I wanted this to colorful and busy, with a workspace inside the bedroom. I imagined that the artist, like me, holds on to everything, so I put in a ton of storage space. I'm so happy to have finally found a good use for the bed with artwork on it. The tree mural by the bed was inspired by a real tree mural than an artist friend of mine painted in her apartment. Since the space was so bright and stimulating, I made the artist's bathroom a much calmer space so that can be where they unwind.
Other build notes: I decided to add a guest room because that's nice to have in any house or apartment and, in a house for three young people, it would be especially useful if there was a place for their parents to sleep when visiting. The laundry room was originally planned for the second floor, but I ended up wanting a little more space for the grey bedroom, so I moved the laundry room to the attic so that it could be the size I wanted. Fun fact: my childhood home used to have laundry in the attic and we used to find bats up there!
Final notes: There's a bug in this build where sims can't enter (or exit) rooms on the long side of the second story hallway (even if the walls are removed). I think this is most likely caused by something related to the open staircase, but I have no idea how to fix it. Because this makes the house unsuited for playing in, I did not thoroughly playtest the build, nor did I fix every issue I found in my general playtesting. On a happier note, this is the first time I've ever had a challenge where I didn't struggle to stay within the budget. Usually I get towards the end of a build and have to replace some items with cheaper ones and use all debug items for my landscaping.

ENTRY DETAILS: I chose to do a modern style home, with desert theme, taking colors to the exterior from the surroundings in the neighborhood in Oasis Springs. The first floor has shared areas: there is open plan kitchen, dining and living areas. There is a half bath for guests, and I also decided to make an extra bathroom in downstairs, since there was "space in the budget", it's nice and convenient. Downstairs also features a common "walk in closet" for outerwear and shoes, a Laundry room, and of course: the Media Room for having those movie nights. Upstairs, there are two sides with own stairways and there are small lounge areas. Upstairs is the separate suites for each resident: they have their own bedroom, bathroom and workspace and they also have their own balconies. Fashion Designer has two entrances to her workspace - this is because the other doorway can be used by her customers (that she is styling); so she can separate her personal spaces from her office/Workspace. Outdoor areas features a cute front yard with flower arranging table and a stall for organizing yard sales. Backyard has a terrace with outdoor cooking and grilling area, a bar, seating area, and outdoor dining area/patio. There is also a pool and sun loungers for relaxing. The backyard also has plant pots for gardening.

This Lovely, base game-only home is ready for our three college grads to move in. There are 3 suites in this home, with ample space for working and living in each of the suites. The common areas are also spacious, allowing for group hangouts, and personal space. The home does feature a quiet room on the first floor, that can be used for reading, playing music, or whatever the quiet room needs to be used for. The yard is also spacious, with plenty of room to chill and enjoy the nice sunny days.

ENTRY DETAILS: I chose to make an updated brownstone styled home. Each individual has their own private floor for their personal space and it is decorated to suit their style preferences and needs. The main floor and basement, as well as the rooftop deck and back porch, are shared spaces for everyone to enjoy together. The home's shared spaces are decorated with greys, blues, and yellows to please each of the home's occupants, while still maintaining a more neutral pallet. The private space is more specifically decorated to the individual's personal style. There is very little outdoor space which is common for this style of home, although I did add some garden boxes for the roommates, if they choose to dabble in gardening.

ENTRY DETAILS:
I went with a more edgy/modern overall feel to the lot due to the age and 'artsy' personalities of the students/new creative career Sims. I then added personality, career, and color touches in each of their private areas in the home. I created my artist space themed toward a female, and I incorporated painting setups, yellows, and tons of artsy-fartsy details in her living area. For the writer I enjoyed creating a space that would inspire me if I was writing, I made it more gender-neutral, and I chose sea-blue tones and water features and touches in that space. For the designer I made a useable fashion photo studio that's fed into by its own staircase to run a fashion consulting and photography business out of.
I have to admit, I can really relate to these three Sim personality and career types... but mainly the artist and the designer. I personally do web design, digital graphic design (along with having an art background before digital was a thing), plus photography, as my current career. So... I really leaned into what a dream (yet humble enough) space would be within my home for these careers! That's part of what I love about building in Sims... you can really create the space you would LOVE to have!!

#BnS174 - Generational Renovation

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz.” You greet your newest clients and their two children with a smile, suppressing a chuckle as one of them pirouettes through the door in a yellow tutu. “I see we’re in the presence of a famous ballerina,” you joke.

The child giggles. “I’m not famous yet!”

“Jannik, behave, This office is too small to dance in,” her father scolds. “Sorry about that.” He still wears his work uniform with Schnitzel Shoppe embroidered across it under a tag identifying him as the manager.

“It’s quite all right, no harm done. Now, how can I help you?”

Tobias Schwartz replies, “My family and I have been living in a too-small flat until recently. When my parents decided to retire, they left their house to us. It’s nice and roomy, but -”

“It could use some updating,” Valerie interjects. “It really needs to be brought into this century. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love traditional homes and furnishings, but the house is seriously dated. The plumbing and electrical at least need to be brought into this century.”

“We would like to preserve some things from the current home though. It’s part of my family’s heritage,” Tobias adds.

“We’ll do our best,” you promise. “Anything else we should know?”

“I want a blue room. With a firetruck!” The other child interjects.

“Finn, shh,” Valerie says. “We’ll get you a firetruck for your birthday, okay?”

“Well that might be hard to do, but we’ll make sure your room is blue,” you promise. You turn back to the parents. “What’s your budget?”

“We have an extra $50,000 or so put aside above the value of the house,” Tobias replies.“So $135,500. By the way, I like contemporary style, so if you could come up with something both of us would like, that’d be great.”

“I’ll do my best.”

“Oh, one more thing - we want the color scheme to include lots of neutrals,” Tobias says, looking at his wife.

“With touches of purple,” she adds, smiling back at him. “And before I forget, would it be possible to add a greenhouse or conservatory? I’d love to be able to grow flowers all year round and not worry about the weather. And I’ll need a spot to store my trinkets from my travels and my guitar.”

“That should all be possible. It’ll take about a month, is that all right?”

“Perfect, our lease is up in a month. Thank you!”

ENTRY DETAILS:
Since this lovely family requested a contemporary look, I redid the rooflines and used the top roof space for entertaining. I added loads of patio space as well as a greenhouse to complete the clean lines. Inside, I used natural wood tones with a splash of purple since the couple wanted this color. I used a lot of the original artwork, especially in Valerie's music room which houses her special trinkets. Finn has a fire fighter themed room with blues to make the red fire trucks pop. The little girl has a special yellow room perfect for any ballerina. Outside is a swimming pool, bbq, swingset and slide for the children as well as a water splash pad. The sideyard is lined with planters for Valerie's green thumb and she has an ample greenhouse as well. White lines help the contemporary tone outside setting off places for the family to entertain themselves and others. There's also a garage and a place for their cars.

ENTRY DETAILS: Content Contemp is a fully renovated, residential build that features three bedrooms and two and a half baths. It also includes a kitchen with a walk-in pantry, music lounge, a playroom with a study corner, greenhouse, and family-friendly yard. Roughly ninety percent of the outer walls of the original home were left untouched. The most obvious change - beyond the roof - was the removal of the garage and the addition of the greenhouse on the first floor, along with two balconies on the second. Inside, a couple closets were eliminated, along with a wall or two, to open the rooms up. A total of 12 items were repurposed, including the baby grand piano, the guitar, the jukebox, the dining room table and chairs, the animal basket, and the standing mirror.

ENTRY DETAILS:
The family requested a contemporary styled home decorated using a neutral color pallet with touches of purple. To achieve the contemporary style I removed all the previous roofing and changed the roof design which in turn gave the family extra deck space. I kept all the exterior walls in tact but added a few planter boxes (with purple lavender) and updated the windows and doors. The home is decorated with plenty of white, beige, and pale hardwood. I have painted a couple of the rooms a very pale purple and have added pops of purple throughout the house. I have turned what was originally the garage into a greenhouse for Valerie. I made sure to give Finn a blue bedroom and even added a red (fire) truck crafting table in the room. There is a small study on the main floor for Valerie to display her trinkets from her travels. I have also preserved as many items from the previous house as possible.

ENTRY DETAILS: With Valerie's love of traditional and Tobias's taste for contemporary this renovation was a challenge. I upgraded to a metal roof and removed the overhangs and one of the front dormers. On the back we removed a roof section and replaced it with a new deck. We replaced 2 sections with half dormers. All new doors and windows and new landscaping with lots of purple flowers. Inside I used lots of neutrals with pops of purple, again blending traditional and contemporary furnishings.
