“I noticed you dressed casual today for our meet up and thought I might take you for a late night shop?” I said suddenly.
“I was going to change… we don’t have to shop,” Ivy replied.
“But I want to buy you something really special for tonight. Please let me?” I asked. Ivy looked at me a little reluctant at first, but her expression softened and she nodded. It was a pre-planned thing I wanted to do for all the girls on our dates.
After arriving to the clothing store Ivy looked around knowing exactly what she wanted. She was like a kid in a candy store and had picked out three or four already by pointing them out to me.
“I like green… I think green is my colour. OOOOO maybe purple!” she said spotting another one. “I’m totally feeling a ‘pretty woman’ moment here where I can totally try everything on in the store…” she laughed. I chuckled with her and shrugged telling her to ‘go crazy.’ Ivy Squealed and dashed into the fitting rooms. I looked at my watch knowing we had a little while so she could try all her favourite dresses on.
“What do you think?” she said posing with a hand on her hip.
“Looks lovely… very bright,” I smiled.
“Do you think I should go long and formal? Or mid length … but still conservative?”
“I want you to get whatever you feel is right for you Ivy. Pick as many as you like…”
“I don’t own many formal dresses…”
“Time to fill out your wardrobe sweetie. Go and try on another one…” I asked kissing her hands. Ivy laughed and tried on several dresses and asked me to pick one in the end.

I decided to go with the green one that matched her complexion and eyes. Ivy was stoked about all the dresses she tried on, so while paying for the green dress I asked the clerk to pack up the others since I had done the same for Kim earlier this week. Only it was going to be a massive surprise for Ivy tomorrow when she was going to receive them at the bachelorette mansion.
“I’ve never owned anything so fancy and designer, you make me feel really special Reuben…” she said clinging to my arm leaning her head against my shoulder.

“Your welcome Ivy… You deserve to be spoilt. You’re an angel…” I said leaning down hoping she would look at me and kiss me. She smiled and lent upward and gave me a quick kiss in front of the cashier.
The chauffeur brought us up to my parents’ house and dropped us off by the fountain.
“Oh my dear lord Reuben!” she said shocked looking at my parents’ house. “Is this their house?” she finished. I nodded and Ivy looked at the house again looking wide eyed and a more nervous than before. “I have seen big houses before, but this is a different scale. I’ve never even been in a house this big. This is like a celebrity house…” she said speedily as I could feel anxiety beginning to take over.
“The big house is nothing. People look at this house and get intimidated all the time. Big house, big money, big intimidating people… my mum is like a big bundle of love. And its’ not because I’m biased because she’s mum. You will see, I promise.”

I opened the door and searched around for mum and dad at first while Ivy envied the stairwells in the main entrance.
“Oh my god!” she said surprised again. As Ivy’s heels clicked on the hard wood floors my mum popped her head out of the formal dining area.
“Oh there you are!” she said cheerfully, “I was wondering when you were going to arrive!”
“Mum, this is Ivy Arrington. Ivy, this is my mother Elizabeth…”
“Oh hush Reubie. Call me Betty…” she said taking Ivy’s hand.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, you have a fine home Betty…”

“Oh Reubie, isn’t she the sweetest thing. I love your accent. It’s so beautiful!” she chirped. Ivy blushed and my mother ushered her into the dining room where the caterer was setting the table.
“So has he always been Reubie? I think that nick name is the cutest!” Ivy said smirking at me.
“Yeah he’s always been Reubie. Much to his dismay. But we already have one Reuben in this house. So when I call him, there is no way my husband would ever answer to that!” she laughed. “And speak of the devil. Let me introduce you my husband, Reuben Senior,”
“There is nothing senior about me dear,” he said with a chuckle, “But I’m very pleased to meet you…”
“This is Ivy…” I chimed in.
“Ivy. What a beautiful name. I can see why my son has taken a liking for you. Your absolutely glowing tonight… thank you for joining us for dinner…” he said pulling out my seat. Ivy looked surprised but took the invitation to take a seat. I sat beside her while she thanked my father and she turned to me,
“I can see where you get your charms now Reubie!” she smirked. I buried my head in my hands while my parents took a seat.

The waiters fussed around us and Ivy was amazed by the service for a home cooked dinner.
“I’ve never had food like this in my life, this is beautiful…”
“The plates maybe small, but you had 6 more to come so save the room,” Mum said.
“6! My goodness!”
“I cannot get over how sweet this girl is Reuben… I think you have made a great choice here,” she said clinking my glass with me. Ivy blushed and we talked about all our one on one dates along with Ivy’s life in the country. We laughed and shared great company the whole way through without a hitch. The night was going perfectly.

After the final course, Dad pulled me aside to share a drink and Cuban with him while Mum and Ivy disappeared into another room.
"Through all of this I was always worried about my son getting his heart broken. But after meeting a few of you now, I’m actually beginning to feel awful about this whole situation. Because potentially my son will break his own heart when it’s time to say good bye to the ones who don’t make it. And you’re a sweet lady, I’m not even concerned that you will hurt Reuben. But are a fighter? I mean will you put in those ‘hard yards’ to be the one in the end?"
"Well, to be honest I have fallen in love with your son, Betty. I do come across sweet, but I’d say there’s a little fire in me. Reuben is everything I’d hoped for in a man. You’ve really raised an incredible person! So yes, I will fight for what I want. And what I want is to be with him."
"I’ve absolutely adored your life stories, your dates with Reuben and really opening his eyes to the country. How attached are you to the country? Would you compromise to live in the city? Or is that not an option? I can see Reuben compromising and making a commute if need be … But I just want to know how rooted you are to living rural?"

"I have absolutely adored seeing the city and I said to Reuben tonight that I could really see myself living there. The country will always have a place in my heart but I want more in life, and I feel like the city will give me that. If I don’t end up with him, I think I’ll move there anyway. It’s time for some new adventures - hopefully with Reuben and I side by side."
"What do you actually do for a living Ivy? And will you continue doing it? Or do you have other dreams and aspirations in mind for your future? How will make Reuben a part of that?"
I’m a veterinarian. Growing up surrounded by animals gave me a passion for that. I’m such an animal lover, and so my job really fulfills me. I’d like to open up my own practice in the city. I think it’s important for Reuben to be with someone who is a go getter and has her own career because of how busy he is, and I definitely will be as well starting up a new business. I think it would make a healthy balance for us. I’ll be there for him whenever he needs me, and I know he would do the same. I’ll definitely be taking some business advice from him! I’m sure he would love to help me with that.

I’m sorry if I am so forthcoming and really putting you on the spot here. I really do care about my son’s future. He is young and at the top of his career right now. And I just want to make sure he has a solid woman by his side.
"And finally this is a big one, but I am going to ask all of the girls. But it’s about kids. It’s important to me, and it’s important to the Church legacy. Even though Reuben rolls his eyes at me when I ask for grand babies, he has mentioned he would like a couple of kids with the right lady… are you the maternal type or do you need a long while before considering babies?"
"Oh, of course! I wouldn’t have expected you to not ask that! My mom is the same. I’m extremely family orientated, so a bunch of kids are on my list. Maybe even three or four! I actually can’t wait to have a family of my own!"
“Thank you Ivy, it has been an absolute pleasure getting to know you and be in your presence tonight. My son has taken the bachelor very serious, he has chosen a beautiful gem…” Mum said smiling.
