The Sims 4 Game Suggestion - Therapist & Therapy

Hello all,

Long time Simmer here and been heartened to see all the domains introduced into the game since the original game.

As part of this effort, a suggestion on introducing the added dimension of going for therapy as a means to improve coping and well-being, and also perhaps even adding "Therapist" and/or other mental health professionals as part of the career tracks. Would also love if we could have business lots as therapy centres and mental health clinics.

I do hope this will help normalise taking care of one's mental health and its importance, as well as seeking out such means of support.

Thank you!

  • It makes sense in particular with the sims feeling emotions.

    Traumatic events :

    • Witness of death and fire
    • Meet Grim Reaper, Reapers, Edith ghost, Bonehilda and Tragic Clown
    • Scared by ghosts
    • Attacks by vampires and werewolves
    • Left at the altar
    • Break up and divorce
    • Alien abduction
    • Lay off and demote
    • Be infected in StrangerVille
    • Haunted house
    • Be eaten by a cowplant
    • Have an Imaginary friend
    • Midlife crisis

The sims would have a lot of topics to discuss with a therapist.

This is actually pretty neat. We have grief, balance (Enchanted By Nature), the typical anger and sadness emotions which come more often with celebrities with the emotion bomb quirk (Get Famous) and the gloomy trait as well as those with the hot-headed trait, we have teenagers that fall into rebellious and avoidant phases and ask for advice (Parenthood), etc etc. I know a good deal of these require packs, but given what’s already in-game more wellbeing careers doesn’t sound too unusual. We already have a relationship counselling career option (Lovestruck).

If a sim was to attend therapy, they could get rid of a fear or quirk, have a chance to swap personality traits, and recover from burnout. A sim could receive certain moodlets from attending, they might even gain a new reward trait. It could be like school or work where you have assignments to do outside of sessions. If we’re gonna follow the function of school and work, therapy could be discontinued if their performance is too low (or ignore the performance scale and just base it off how many sessions are missed).

Having this as a business option would be great, too. People feel better when helping others (even if it’s in a game with fake people), and maybe they’ll be inspired. The business choices are very limited anyways… with all the packs bought I think there’s only 3 or 4 options?

(The Sims4 is obviously not an alternative to real therapy, but still!)
