Great post and thread! I wholeheartedly agree that if the traits were simplified (i.e. similar traits grouped, autonomous interactions clearly based on traits, some traits moved to the preferences menus, etc.) and some of the aspirations were reworked, it could make a HUGE difference to the game's overall issues of autonomy and lack of personality/individualism amongst the sims. Some clear examples; only Active sims or sims with the Physical aspiration should be doing autonomous push ups and sit ups randomly, only sims who are geeks and like tech should autonomously use computers and phones, only outgoing/good/social sims should autonomously go outside and look for someone to talk to.
Definately! Autonomous stuff should be relevant to the sim's personality. Foodie sims should randomly start cooking, but lazy sims shouldn't randomly start exercise, things like that.
Also, it would be cool if the core personality traits like messy/tidy or friendly/mean could change through gameplay if you wanted. Like if a sim does tidying multiple times while in a good mood then there could be a pop-up saying they enjoyed tidying, are they becomming more tidy and you get to say yes or no. Could also go the other way and if they're tidying multiple times while in a bad mood maybe they like it less? Some kind of personality progression throughout a sim's life would be interesting and new. Also would make interesting goals in gameplay.
