@EA_Solaire I'm intruding on this discussion to ask, if a married couple has a child outside of marriage (e.g., a science baby with a friend), is the partner who did not donate the DNA automatically assigned as the parent of this child? Does he or she have the option to adopt it?

If you have a science baby with a friend, that science baby does have 2 parents in their family tree, so adoption is not possible.
However, if you have a science baby alone, that baby only has 1 parent in the family tree, so adoption would be possible in that scenario.
So to clear this up a bit further- to adopt an infant/child/teen, they need to have only 1 parent listed in the family tree, or adoption will not be possible.
