My male sim has a relationship with a female NPC sim and they are maxed out on friendship and romance. Both have happy closer memories and deeply connected sentiments. And when he asked her to be his confidant she rejected him and went home. And it took their friendship down 10 points it looks like. Which is a bummer because Love Day was on Friday according to my game. And since it was Wednesday on my game, I had planned on asking her to marry my sim on that Friday (Love Day). But since she rejected my "be my confidant request" I don't want my sim to marry her now.
My male sim had just received the Indoorsy Lifestyle a few days ago and been maintaining it. Both sim characters where "Deeply Connected & Closer Happy Memories" and my male sim had the additional smitten sentiment toward the female NPC sim. My guess for you is keep maintaining the Indoorsy lifestyle, I had it for 3 days or so and I saw it on the romance tab while talking to the female NPC sim. By definition I know what the word means and I thought that it would increase their relationship with each other if I clicked on it and asked her to be my confidant. But she rejected and went home.

I had a similar result when the wife (close knit) asked her husband (people person). He got a hurt sentiment and it really brought their friendship down.
Since they had full friendship, I'm assuming he didn't like being asked because of his people person lifestyle?
I asked about three times and they all resulted in a negative interaction. Asking to be a confidant didn't go away for me, but it could be because their friendship was still "high" enough to just be friends. After all, I didn't want them to hate each other!

Any ideas on how this actually work? I have tried it dozens of times, always with 100% friendship, positive emotions, and being best friends. I have the interaction in the pie menu, so no problem unlocking the option. But i have tried with different sims, in different saves and I have literally NEVER seen a positive result, i have never seen the other sim saying yes when i ask to be confident. They always get mad at my sim and friendship goes down. Am i missing something? Is there any requisite for this to work or is it just completely bugged? Thank you for any insight or suggestion, like i said i have tried it dozens of times and it never worked.
Thank you.
