Households that I save in "other households" sometimes are suddenly gone.

Hi,

I never really notice on time and often create a new save file but when I just checked all my worlds I saw suddenly some households are gone that I had living in lots. These are family's I created and then saved to other households by clicking the "heart" in manage households.

I like to do this so I don't play sims but have "npc's" I created story's for in the world. Anyways, some are gone, randomly 5-6 households are gone gone, not in other households or active ones, they are also not in the friends list of my other sims anymore, they did not die they just pooof gone.

I tried to fix my game but I am not sure how I make sure this doesn't happen anymore, is this a known bug and has anyone else had this?

If I just create another save file will it stop?

I play with the following mods:

  • ww
  • mcc
  • basemental
  • clothing etc
  • gambling
  • venue list
  • fashion authority

Thanks!

  • Hi ALT0420G

only households in my household are safe from culling. If you had them in other households it's possible that they got removed.

All you can probably do is check if you have a backup. Could also been a mod's doing. Bit hard to tell.

  • ALT0420G As crinrict said, only sims in My Households in Manage Households are safe from being culled even if they are "Not in World".  Culling only deletes entire households.  It does not delete just one or two sims in a multi sim household.  Culling will happen regardless of how many sims you have but imo, seems to happen more when you get near the max sim number you've set (80, 150, 200, Unlimited) so I suggest you set the max to unlimited if your system will handle it to slow culling down.   Btw, only sims in the My Households tab are included in the max sims number.  Sims in the Other tab are not.  Since you use mods, MCCC had an option to bypass culling altogether, but it does have a downside in that ghosts will build up in the Hidden sims tab over time.

Another thing that can make sims disappear is Neighborhood Stories if you have deaths enabled so you might want to check your settings for that for both tabs in Manage Households.  In this case, the game kills off only one sim at the time.  If that sim was the last teen or above in the household, any children and below will disappear too.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi crinrict

Thanks for the reply! I had no idea they get removed that way, I always save all my households in "other households" because I thought this was a work around to have more households and "npc's", but then that makes a lot of sense and I will stop saving them all in other.

Thanks again, have a nice Sunday!

    Hi CGrant56

This helps so much! Thank you, explains more for sure! It has only been entire households that have been deleted and households I did not play for a long time. I will set the max to unlimited and clean up some households.

I disabled neighbourhood stories because I didn't want anyone to die or change things so I was just building households, making a backstory and then never looking at them again. I just enjoy building and placing people but I don't play that much.

I am already glad it's not a bug because I remember last year I saw a bug like this (I think), but this makes sense, I had never heard of the culling before in sims haha.

Thanks again and have an awesome Sims Sunday!

  • ALT0420G  Yep, culling has been the bane of our existence since the very beginning of TS4.  While I understand why it is necessary, I don't like it any more than any other player.  One thing I had wrong in my previous post.  When Neighborhood Stories death is enabled, if the household of the sim that gets killed off has children or below, they don't disappear, they get adopted by other households under the Other tab.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi CGrant56

Helps a lot! I really didn't know any of this even do I have been playing sims for over a decade haha!

I understand its necessary and it makes sense but I rather upgrade my laptop and not have the culling but yeah, I will keep my fav households in my households for now on and just save other households for ones I really don't care about, thanks again! Have a wonderful Sunday :)
