how do you cancel charity drives/pet adoption events?

Is there a way to cancel events I didn't initiate? I'm trying to give my pregnant Sim a baby shower on her day off but the first day there was a pet adoption drive and the next day there was a chari...

I've been having the same problem and my patience is wearing thin now because after I complete these events I want to cancel it and move onto the next thing in my game periodtt & i am very tempted to see if a modder can fix this problem because apparently it isn't getting fixed anytime soon.
