I agree that the step parent feature needs attention.
For me, Adopt as Caregiver pops up in the Friendly conversation options once the friendship bar is above halfway, so once they have a really good relationship. It also only pops up on your home lot for some reason. It's appeared for my Sims once they all moved into the lot together, then greeted each other and built their friendship through conversation. Then it appeared as an interaction.
If that's not happening then it may be a bug. You play on console too don't you as we're both on the broken controls thread.
@simsplayer818 Ah. Maybe their relationship isn't quite high enough. I think it's at about 2/3 right now. I'm pretty sure the Parenthood pack bypasses this and moves it to the Child Care social tab, but I don't have Parenthood on the PS4 version yet
- simsplayer8183 years agoHero@iamsweetmystery I have Parenthood, it's a good pack tbh. It's still in Friendly interactions for child age Sims but it may be different for toddler age Sims.
I've just had a quick look in Bug Reports while I was on there to see if there are any reported issues but couldn't see any other reports.
I have a feeling all of this will be addressed in the new family expansion pack that's on the way pretty soon, at least I hope it is.
Most of my little Sims are adopted through the computer but I have had one widower marry again and his new wife luckily got high friendship quickly with his little boy, then she adopted him.
I also had one family who lost their familial links to each other when I saved them and added them back into my game, they still had a high relationship though and I didn't notice till they were chatting with their daughter and Adopt as Caregiver popped up in the conversation.- iamsweetmystery3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@simsplayer818 I have Parenthood on PC through EA Origin, but not on PS4 (yet). The PC is a shared device used mainly by my partner, but the PS4 is all me. I'm the only console enthusiast between us. (My partner isn't accustomed to consoles and finds the controllers awkward to use, but I've been console gaming since Atari7800, so it's second nature to me.) I've maxed the relationship between my Sim and her step-daughter, but still no caregiver option. Maybe it's tied only to Parenthood, but I could swear I've used it on PS4 before. Then again, maybe somehow I just got mixed up with elements from my PC content.

@simsplayer818 The Successful Lineage Aspiration furthers my point about step-parents being delegitimized. One of the goals for that Aspiration is "Become a Parent" and it's not considered fulfilled. The goal "Socialize with Your Child 10 Times" doesn't count socializing with a step-child. So, yeah. You're married to their mother, you love them, take care of them, and nurture them, but too bad. You're not really their parent. You're just someone who hangs around. Doesn't mean anything. Kind of sickening to be honest. I seriously hope they put this right one day.
- simsplayer8183 years agoHero@iamsweetmystery Yes you're absolutely right about that and I hope it is part of the next steps for the Sims 4 to address it and to expand genealogy as a whole. I like big complicated family relationships between my households.
I'll keep an eye out for this is my game. I just added an adult briefly to the Munch household to see if it popped up with little Lucas because I've seen it with other adults in households, even with a parent there. But it didn't pop up in conversation. So I'm going to keep looking out for it.
