It can be quite daunting with all the settings, but it's best to just get familiar with them. If you feel adventurous, maybe make a change, remember what you changed, and see if it has the desired effect. If it doesn't, change it back. It'll always tell you what the default was.
Don't worry a whole lot about the settings. If you have a question, just jump in here and ask. There are some of us like me who've been using it since it was first released. We're extremely familiar with it. I've been using mods like that since Nraas back in Sims 3.
If worse comes to worst and the settings get all borked, you can reset the whole thing easily enough. Just exit the game and delete the MCCC file "mc_settings.cfg". Re-run the game and it'll create a whole new one back to the defaults.
AFAIK, there is only one setting that "might" screw something up. If you have the mod, "Simulation Lag Fix", I've heard that changing the game time speed in MCCC from the default of 25 might mess things up. I've heard changing MCCC's game speed can interfere with SLF. Not sure how though. I don't use it as I'd rather have longer days. Mine's set to 30.

Hello I have a question you know when your game updates do you delete your save or do you just delete your mods and cc then add it back when your game has updated.
- Psychotps6 years agoSeasoned Ace
Neither. I don't do anything.
When the game updates, it will automatically disable CC/Mods. This is just a checkbox in the game. If I check it to turn mods/cc back on and attempt to play, the game will be a wreck. I know when the game updates, a lot of mods will break. There are really only two options then. Remove the mods and play without them, or just wait.
ALL of my saves have long used mods/cc. If I remove the mods, the majority of my sims and townies will end up naked and bald. Most of my houses will have missing furniture, decorations, DOORS, windows, major game functions provided by mods will be gone, causing their own problems... it'll be a mess!
So, removing mods isn't an option as my saves rely on them.
Having them IN isn't an option as they'll break the game before they're updated.
So, I do nothing.
Unfortunately this means you can't play until you get updated mods. If you are REALLY hard-up for playing and can't wait... Leave the mods/cc disabled in the game settings. You certainly don't want to play one of your existing saves as this will cause irrecoverable chaos. So, just start a whole new game and play without mods/cc there. That way it won't effect or damage anything on your IMPORTANT saves.
But, playing without all my mods? MCCC, and all my CC outfits and Alpha hair? That's just depressing...
I always just stop playing and wait until the mods are all updated. There's always a forum thread here:TheSims.com General Mods Discussion
It's usually called "Broken\Updated Mods for patch xxx" It's the BEST place to check and see what mods are broken/updated/fixed for the most recent patch. There's one there right now that's tracking broken mods for the ECO Living update. A LOT of mod creators like me post updates on their mods there so everyone can track them and see when they can get updates. The first few posts are constantly updated showing lists of the current mods that are still broken and which are updated.

Thank you I really appreciate this answer I was told to delete my saves everytime I updated my game as for cc I only have one hairstyle and a dress for my sim so townies are not effected in my game again thank you.

@Rachelharris31, one of the best things to do to help with your Mods and CC is to delete the local thumb cache package.file (it will look like localthumbcachepackage.file and it is located in your game folder). This will clean up old junk you don't need as well as any corrupted bits that might remain behind! 🤨🙌
