Sims Payment Model

I would like to give some feedback regarding the change of how you play The Sims.
I dont like the changes that have been made to the way you buy this game and maybe other people can relate to this aswell.
When I first got into the Sims 3, we were a group of friends and family (4 people (mark, dave, sabrina and me) that started playing.
A part of the experience was, that when a new expansion hit the market, we were able to share these games with eachother.
For example.
David bought the base game. Mark bought the Career Pack, Sabrina bought The Travelling Pack and I got the Late Night Pack.
Then david bought the extention after mine so he could play all our previously bought extentions.

This was possible in the Sims 3 mainly because it had a weaker DRM, but I think that was a big part of its success (that and the open world aspect).

I think that such a system should be part of the next Sims experience. For example you can share your copy of The Sims with up to 3 friends on Origin or something like the Steam Family Mode.
That way a lot more people would spend more money on this game, because its a group effort.

Just my 2 cents on this topic. I think the Sims is great and I was a big fan of the genre (accounts: aigemark & this one).
But I am not going to buy the current version because I am not going to spend that amount of money alone (all in all everyone of us paid nearly 100€ or more on Sims 3 but none of us got into Sims 4 because of this reason... each of us would now have to pay 400€ instead of it being split between each other)

  • So you're mad because you can't cheat the system? There's a reason only one person could register the packs. You're paying for one license, not four. Gaming is an expensive hobby. What you were doing while not technically illegal was very shady. So you're openly admitting to wanting sim games without paying for them. Not enough sales = no new releases. For shame.

Wouldn't have benefitted me at all since I only know of one other person (not counting people on this forum) in my life who plays the Sims, and that person plays on a console while I play on a PC, so the games aren't interchangeable that way.   Be thankful you were able to purchase TS3 in that manner :eahigh_file: , because many of us still had to pay for everything ourselves. ☹️ I didn't even realize TS4 was different in that way! 😳😃

Also, my guess is that they changed this because too many people were doing what you and your friends did. 🤨  I suppose this was legal (?) since they allowed it, but it sounds fishy to me. 🤔☹️

  • I am not mad.

Its just my reason for not buying the new game.

Steam already has the possibility to share games with your family and friends (up to 5 I think). I think origin whould profit from this functionality aswell.

Why would it be cheating. Atleast in our school this was common. That you buy Sims 3 in groups. Because noones dad is going to spend hundreds of dollars on a single game...

Also instead of having a group of 5 that might spend 100€ each you now have none paying any money because why would they?

Fortnite, Minecraft and Co are getting their money now.

And by the way. You can still cheat the system by using a shared account in Offline mode... Its just inconvinient

Gaming is an expensive hobby. In my teens I worked part time and since I didn't have bills I'd buy all my own packs. Now that im in my 20s i still buy all the packs despite bills. Its my hobby. Hobbies cost money.
