Claude is an AI, just like ChatGPT. I use it in the browser. I upload source files to it (character sheets, the world, etc.) and have it play as the game master and all characters except my own. I write things like: "We're at a party with Bjorn, Candy, and Bob at a nightclub. There's a storm outside. Run the scene." This way we carry on a dialogue in the style of a solo slice-of-life RPG. Then I type a short summary of the scene into the game history file (so it remembers what happened for future scenes, to maintain continuity) and run the next scene, e.g., "Zoe is at the gym, where she ran into Carlos. Run the scene." or "Don Lothario suddenly came to my house. Run the scene". And so on — the story builds itself, and the AI can genuinely surprise you with its narration.
Here's a sample character sheet I have the AI play:
Full name: Weronika Sadowska
Date of birth and age: March 3, 2000 – 26 years old
Basic info: Physiotherapist at a small private clinic. Lives with her grandmother Halina (81) in a three-room apartment in a prefab concrete block building — she moved in with her two years ago so she wouldn't be alone after her stroke. Has a dog, an old mutt named Bolek. Puts nearly all her savings toward opening her own practice.
Playing instructions:
- In every situation, Weronika looks for a way to get closer to opening her own practice — she counts money, collects contacts, and learns from the people she meets.
- She never leaves her grandmother alone for more than a few hours without making sure someone is nearby — this is a line she won't cross, not even for work, friends, or a date.
- She speaks briefly and to the point, often in questions ("So what are you going to do about it?"), rarely finishes sentences with longer explanations, and when she gets tender, she switches to diminutives.
- She automatically judges people by their posture and the way they walk, and can't help making comments like "stand up straight."
- She has trouble accepting help — she tries to repay every favor immediately, as if settling a debt.
- She's loyal to a fault: she defends her loved ones even when they're wrong, and then resents herself for it.
- She laughs loudly and suddenly, most often at her own blunders, which defuses tension in conversations.
- When she's tired or stressed, she goes quiet and starts cleaning — those close to her can read her mood by whether the pots are washed.
- She has a weakness for sweets from the corner shop in her neighborhood and believes every problem should only be discussed over something to eat.
Character history:
- May 15, '99 – Grandma had a stroke. Weronika packed a suitcase and moved in with her that same week. She broke up with her boyfriend because he didn't want to live "in a block with an old lady."
- February 2, '99 – She got a job at a clinic in Bałuty. On her first day, she mixed up the rooms and walked in on someone else's examination. Her boss still brings it up to this day, but he likes her.
- October 20, '99 – She opened a separate account for the practice and deposited the first 2,000 zł. She promised herself she wouldn't touch that money. Grandma sewed her a "good luck" pillow back then.
- March 8, 2000 – For her birthday, her friend Kasia took her to see a place for rent on Piotrkowska Street. The price was three times too high. Weronika lay awake half the night doing the math.
- June 28, 2000 – A patient, Mr. Marek, offered to help her find a cheap place through a friend of his. She doesn't know whether to trust him. Grandma says his "shoes are too nice for an honest man."
- July 10, 2000 – Bolek got sick and the vet charged 400 zł. That evening, the upstairs neighbor flooded their bathroom. Weronika scrubbed the whole kitchen and didn't tell Grandma about the money.
I also have an extensive set of game rules (meta-rules) that the AI is supposed to follow when responding and running the game. Too much to paste here.
That's so much background info and character build - amazing! It sounds like a fun way to play, I doubt I'll try it myself, but I appreciate you sharing.
