Are all premades meant to be straight?

It used to be so before the gender preferences update.

According to modder flauschtrud, there is a hidden switch in the code. If you are playing only straight sims, the townies are pansexual as promised in the information we were given (for a while there was a bug that made most of them asexual, but that has been fixed).

But if you play any same sex couples at all, it flips the hidden code switch which then assigns various sexual orientations to townies, with percentages (maybe?) taken from real life statistics (not sure where they got the percentages, actually). This is extremely frustrating for those of us who mainly play gay sims, as that does make it hard to find partners for them, as @AngeliqueAdelaide notes.

flauschtrud made detailed notes about it on this EA Answers bug report thread it's post #22 on that thread. And also has a mod here if you are playing gay or bi sims and want to keep having the pansexual townies.

I am using that mod, myself, and it is working well for me.

Funny thing is, I actually looked at that mod earlier today, but thought that I see first how things are in game.
In my other save, my sims date mostly other played sims whose preferences I would roll as they age up to teens, so there was plenty of potential partners to find and I did not even think that there might be a problem.
I think I am gonna check out this and some other mods that create diversity and see which one fits me best. I only played this save for a day and spend most of it giving premades makeovers, so it won't be that much of a loss to start over.

I’m aware but isn’t preferences left blank unless the sim is edited to have one? My sims been able to woohoo with randomn same sex sims since the update

I didn't edit the preferences of any of the premades, but in CAS all male sims show to be exploring romantically, but sexually and romantically attracted to only women. Same goes to female sims, who are only ever attracted to males.
Meaning, all male sims are happy to flirt and kiss with my guy, but would refuse woohoo, because their woohoo interest is only in women. It would make some sense if there was a choice to have sims be exploring sexually too, but since there isn't, he is unable to find a partner.

nah I think they're meant to be into all sims unless you change it except maybe some HSY and after HSY premades might have different settings I have not really checked

and I actually don't know if it randomizes for randomized townies since i just immediately delete them when they pop up

or if you have any townie control mods there might be setting but idk

I am finding it too easy still. Most sims have the "exploring" switch set to on, so if you flirt a few times before asking them their romantic interests, they usually will develop at least a little interest toward your sim's gender. I think only once since the update have I had a sim get shut down with a clear "not interested".

Yeah, in my experience lately most townies have had the exploring flag on and woohoo interests set to both, typically with romantic interests set blank until they're flirted at which point the exploring flag makes them either determine they like the flirter's gender or not, with a handful of townies that have been specifically het or specifically gay or specifically aroace.
