Bee hives (again)

Found several threads with info but not the answer to my question...

I understand that the relationship to the hive is essential for better quality honey.

But I wonder if the bees build their relationship to the household, or to each household member separately? Would it be wasted to let several household members bond with bees? If they have multiple hives, should they tend to one (or more) each?

Would be less tedious if it is a household relation, but as long as I find no clear answer, it feels a bit time wasted no matter what I do, LOL

What's your routine if say they have a total of 5 bee hives? Will you work them separately? Will it take too long to get top quality honey from multiple hives, so it would be better having fewer hives?

Glad you finally got answers! This thread turned out to be rather informative. I've never fully achieved bonding status, but then again, I gave up too soon.

I pretty much always have beehives if I have a garden for the household, and I pretty much always have a garden if they don't live in the city....so the bees and I have a long term relationship. The reason is because having the hives means you don't need to fertilize, and I'm lazy that way. Plus I like getting honey.

In or out of a green house?

Usually out. I like outdoor gardens despite the impact of Seasons on them. Or, perhaps, even because of the seasonal impact on them. I do generally graft the crops I want to be able to harvest all the time to other plants which are "all season" though, such that those crops are available year round.

  • My Sim lives in HoB, currently. He's on what was a vacant lot, about 50 X 40? I used a downsized version of his original house, making the outside more cottage in looks and he's got chickens in a small fenced off area in the corner, a Toddler gym to the right of the chickens, a spa to the left. Next to the spa he's got a found pot for his newly planted plantains and four plots of ground that came with Cottage Living. He grows just a few things. You should see how nicely his oversized pumpkin turned out. On the side of the garden is a build-in swimming pool. Can't be a Global Superstar without any of the perks, right? So, basically there is no room for a green house. I know, I tried. It's good to learn the bees can survive outdoors. :)

  • I think your sim lives in the same exact lot as my current sim household. Mine are more garden than house on the lot though.

The house takes up only a small part of one corner:

  • That is indeed the very same lot!

Here it is in Winter. The postcard the Erik Cantrell family sent to family and friends.

Here is a shot of the backyard from a much earlier time.

  • I love <3 that postcard!

And find it really awesome just how different an area can look simply by changing the style of the lot(s) in the area. You did nice putting a little garden there next to patchy. One beehive in the center of that garden area would reach the whole thing for the bee's pollination bonus.
  • Thanks for the tip. Of course, what's growing in the garden now is different from the other iteration of my main game save. This is a different Erik Cantrell! So, the plantain tree is now at the far end of the garden. In between is that nice covered jacuzzi spa. (One of their now four kids was brought about by this spa.) LOL

ETA: Oh, look what I found a current picture.
