I have both, I personally like cats and dogs better, because to me it makes the game more realistic and entertaining. I also really like how Brindleton Bay looks, I loved building things there. I love all the build mode items as well, they look very country-like. I think though, it just depends on your personal preference though when it comes to choosing between the two of them. Do you like the country or the city better?
