Create-a-Style is really missed

I never had a problem with the color wheel, and it is missed. They should never have gotten rid of it. When Sims 3 came out I had just gotten a new gamers pc the year before. My game played wonderfully from the start, up to LN, I started having lag. I installed NRass and it fixed the lag. After that, no lag. I have since gotten a new computer, and now I have no lag, nothing. My game runs the same as it did from the start, with all EPs and Stuff Packs minus KP and ITF.

My daughters play the Sims 3 on high settings on a typical Dell laptop, no lag and no problem. My third daughter was playing on a 2008 E-machine from Walmart from 2009- 2011. No lag no crashing, nothing.

I too absolutely miss the create-a-style option with color wheel. I also miss being able to lock doors.... My Sims keep playing musical beds.

I miss it so much. My lovely decorated house would be much better if I could have matching curtains, bedding and rugs.

Before TS4 came out and everyone was complaining about the missing CAS, I was like meh.

Until recently, I started playing TS3 again and yes, CAS definitely adds to the game! Hopefully they'll bring it back!

In all fairness, my response was in reply to those who are going on about the loss of CASt not being a big deal because 'realistically speaking' in the real world we don't have many options when we go to a box store to buy our sofas. I was pointing out that 'realistically speaking', in this real world, we DO get far more options and often unlimited options when it comes to choosing to customize our environment, so the whole 'realistic' bullplum about not being able to pick my own color curtains is absolute nonsense.

I am well aware it is a game. I've been well aware of that for some time. I am not sure you will find anyone here who isn't already aware of that fact. Well, save for one or two. The realistic argument is invalid. A lot of stuff in Sims is far removed from realistic. Then to turn and say we shouldn't expect something in the game because we can't have it real life.. when we do, silliness.

Simply put, I'm not buying Sims 4 till there's a Create-A-Style system in play.

If the modders can fix it, so can EA. But, I doubt EA has any incentive to fix it, because then they would lose face. It would be an admission that they lied about what was possible... But, the real question for me is, why would they create a game engine so limited in what it can supposedly do?

CASt was never the cause of lag. TS3's game engine was the cause of lag. TS3's game engine was a broken, out-dated mess before the game even launched. No matter what excuses EA makes, even the Dev's admitted towards the end just what a horrible engine it was to work with.

Now we have TS4 on an under-powered engine (for a PC game) right out of the gate and people are expecting it to play out differently. EA didn't fix so many of the bugs and issues with TS3, why do we assume they will for TS4? I am constantly surprised how many people are just willing to blindly trust that things will be different this time.

TS3 kept me playing through all the bugs and issues only because of Twallan's mods and CASt. CASt made me want to keep playing because no other game offered me so much creative freedom, and Twallan's mods made it so my game would run.

TS4 has some good features, but I am honest enough with myself to know that it will not keep me wanting to play it long-term. Currently, I want to play because it is a The Sims game and I have played each of them since the original released. But I have other games that offer me more creative freedom now then TS4 can, and other games that offer me better RPG-type gameplay, and other games that have better-playing achievement and rewards systems to them, and other games that are much less buggy and are actually patched and updated regularly and well.

For me, they took my sandbox but left me the shovel.



As for whether CASt can ever make it back into Sims 4, I don't believe it can be simply because it was originally coded to be an online social game. I do think a color wheel is possible though, unless they plan to implement all those social "features" they supposedly took out. Who knows, though? They said Offline play was impossible with SimCity and that proved to be not true. At this point, all we can do is watch and see how things develop, and keep letting EA how we feel in hopes that the next Sims game will be a game that more players can enjoy.

Really, all they had to do was give us Sims 2's gameplay and quirkiness with Sims 3's CASt and open world, slightly better graphics (enough with the plastic!), and some improved features like multitasking, better emotions, and so forth. As long as they included options to turn off or on certain parts of play (i.e. Story Progression, aging), they would have had a game almost all Simmers could have enjoyed and loved for years to come.

Then you won't be buying it and that is ok. I hated Sims 3, never bought anything to do with it after base game, hated CASt, hated open world, etc. I just played Sims 2, and that was fine. You can play what you like.

Have you never gone paint shopping? You can get a color of paint in any color you can imagine. Any. The choices of paint in wall coverings is decidedly unrealistically limited.

You can use that paint to customize many things in your home. You can paint the freakin' door and don't need to be stuck with all white doors which are more grayish white and in need of a paint job.
Realistically speaking, I can make my kitchen cabinets any color I like. I can cover them with gaudy cheetah print contact paper or aluminum foil.
Realistically speaking, if you walk into any reputable furniture store, more often than not you will be able to custom order the furniture with the fabric of your choosing. Still not enough options? Look to hiring an upholsterer and let your imagination run wild. Rainbow cat print sofa.

No more patterns/textures? Whatever. They've done what they've done and I'm learning to live with matte plastic, shiny plastic, in-the-middle plastic selections. But colors? That is proving to be quite a hindrance considering the colors are off from one item to the next.

A forced selection of three to twelve color combination options for fencing? Not realistic.

Want that wall covering in anything except baby hued pastels? Tough.

Tired of looking at white interior doors (which you can see the wood through, so you know they need a paint job). Ha.
Have you noticed that the wood pattern on almost all of the white wood interior doors is exactly the same? That reads as lazy to me.

That wall sconce would fit in perfectly if it were black? Tough plums, you get nasty brass and copper.

I like 'that' shelf, but why does it only have to be in pastels? In 'real life', can't I 'realistically' make in any color I want?


What I would LOVE to see, is EA give us a "Homecrafter" tool where at the very VERY least we can make our own walls and floors. For Plum's sake, we had it in Sims 1. I want nicely painted trim, not shoddy whitewash.

You know it's a shame that EA couldn't have put these things in the game to begin with. Now when you get an EP it might be something that should have been there anyway. Instead of looking for a new and exciting ep everyone will be looking for an ep to add back what was stripped from the game. Such a waste.
