You use the same one over and over.
I'm pretty sure that all of the times mine has disappeared I have left it in a state where it needs cleaning, so I think @EmmaVane and @83bienchen may be on to something regarding the similarity between what I'm seeing with the tea set and the old bug of other things being thrown out instead of cleaned and replaced.
