I never allowed my sims to research, talk about, or interact with vampire npcs WHAT-SO-EVER, and still has 2 attacks every sim week along with nightly knocking visits. The garlic option never worked as well, no matter how much was planted around every entery to the sim's home.
What mods do you have installed? Because in WB, WC or anywhere else if I didn't study vampire lore no other Sims saw any vamps, and if a vamp I turned knocked on my door, I simply ignored them. No big deal, I often ignored the welcome wagon and other townies from next door. Wreaths are what fends off vampires who aren't immune to garlic. Vlad was immune. You let one in or you wouldn't be having the break ins and being bitten. That's on the player, if it's after dark it's always a vampire, you had to ignore them. But there are only three in the game, one is Vlad, the other two are twins who do not nor want blood. That is the way the pack worked, if you lived in WC etc. you never even had to meet one unless you studied Vampire Lore, and I would think some script mods changed the scope of things.
