- I keep telling myself this is the reason why I have close to 100 sims in my library.
Now that I think of it, I could do with a few more... - Never. For the first 3 and 1/2 years I played the same family and same save. Have been playing my current family now for about 3-4 months.
- When I stopped playing my first family there were 4 generations living in the same house. They're in my library in case I decide to play them again.
- Usually when I start to feel bland of my sims, I usually have them do something unexpected. Cheating on their parter, have a mid-life crisis and quit their job, I'll sometimes even reset their money to 0 if I feel like they have a lot.
Right now, I'm playing the fixer upper challenge like The Sim Supply's SEMAJ Twitch let's play. I'm really enjoying it so far. - Nindigo79Seasoned NoviceMy two Sims are really nothing alike, and I don't feel they become bland, because there is a lot more to them than meets the eye. I have their story going on in my head and their personalities are quite fleshed out there inside that head of mine. Sure, they do various Sim things to stay alive and be happy, but so do we on the other side of the screen. Personally, I find that playing The Sims is as much about having a story in the head as making sure a Sim is ready for a work day. Like we real people aren't just a bunch of instincts. We find a purpose and add meaning to things. I hope this helps. If I lose my Sim spark, I go and play other games. When I begin to feel bored with one game, I leave it for a while and do something else. Then after a while I always come back and inspired anew :)
- I think it’s important to have character concepts for sims. Rather than churning them out en masse without any real thought put in, I like to take my time and create histories for each one. It helps me feel more connected to them.

Okay, well I'm rather surprised that people can't relate. I thought this was a common thing, but it feels rather unpleasant to have been mistaken. Guess I'm the only one.
You're not the only one. Haven't you read all the posts about people who keep creating and then abandoning their Sims? They can't get past a certain generation. To keep things fresh, you might try to shake things up a bit. Is your family's life going really well? Are they too rich, too poor, or what have you? Instill some drama. Don't rescue a Sim that has caught themselves on fire, for instance. See how you and the family cope with the loss. I tried after my very first death(s) by emotion which left my Global Superstar with the custody of his identical twin nephews who were toddlers. Things fell apart rapidly as his then fiancée showed her true colors inasmuch as it turned out kids were not her thing. Trying to care for the boys left Erik's star status on rather shaky ground, to say nothing of how the tots' needs went grossly unfilled. I had the constant fear the SS, I do mean Social Worker would come collect them at any time and it was driving me insane.
I went back two saves to recover my game. But, I did use the material in my blog. Roll with the punch, as it's said and see if that doesn't help you get over the bland-blues. - wildirishbansheeRising NoviceSometimes, especially if I've been away from them for a while, as I don't always manage to keep the thread of their lives in my head. And sometimes for whatever reason, I just get bored with a family. That's why I have multiple saves that I bounce between, even though they are all the same play style, they're at different points so it keeps me interested.
- I can relate, although I played a generational family, some of the sims that I grow attached in current generation usually become vampire after long time living without growing old i tend to get bored with them and switch household or played his/her human childrens for a while.
- I can completely relate. I've actually begun playing rotationally, a week in game per family, to combat this. Because after too long, even on normal lifespan, I find things get a bit stale. After I cycle through families generally feel pretty new again. If it happens with my legacy family (who I love to death but get sick of sometimes) then I'll take a break from that save and play somewhere else. Good things to try out are challenges, aspirations, or careers you haven't done before.
