If you have Seasons installed your sim can gather snow as a water surplus. My sim is living off the grid and could only take quick tepid showers, but as soon as she gathered some snow she was able to take a complete shower.

Did you know that the gather water function and water surplus is base game, it came with the patch? I tested it without eco lifestyle installed and my sim could collect water at the fishing spot and take complete shower and normal bath while being off the grid. :)
The energy surplus for off the grid lots seems to be eco lifestyle only, though.
