Ok, so based on what I saw in the trailer, I have both positive and negative feelings about this DLC. Since we’re sharing our thoughts in two separate threads, here are mine for the not-so-positive side:
Herbalism was already a weak feature in the game, and now they’re adding apothecary — which, from what I can tell, is probably going to be quite similar. Personally, I’m not excited about it. I would’ve much preferred an actual upgrade to herbalism rather than something that feels like a copy-paste. Plus, we already have teas (with the tea machine) that help with illnesses, and let’s not forget the good old online-ordered medicine bottle. It’s all a bit repetitive to me — nothing truly new or exciting.
The whole system of illnesses is just… all over the place!
You meet a biting bug while hiking? You’ll need a special tool from a vending machine — but only the ones that come with the Snowy Escape pack.
Catch a disease while exploring the temple in the jungle? You’ll need a special remedy that only comes with the Jungle Adventure pack.
And those annoying symptoms your Sims can get at home? They’re actually from the Get to Work DLC. You can either go to the hospital (if you have that DLC), or use the regular medicine bottle — again, tied to that specific pack.
And now, we’re getting more diseases… with new cures that will, of course, only be available through this new DLC.
It’s just too fragmented — everything is tied to a specific pack, with no overlap. Honestly, it’s a bit of a mess. I really wish they’d taken this opportunity to unify the whole illness system instead of scattering it even more across different expansions.
And the fairies… oh dear. They look like they came straight out of a Disney movie — and that’s really not the vibe I want in my Sims game. It looks like there are “fairy levels” too, since one Sim had small wings, which I’m guessing will grow with time or power. Pfffff... seriously, I couldn’t care less. 😑
Honestly, I wish there were an option for ugly fairies — you know, mischievous gremlin-type ones! I’d love to fly into random houses and cause total chaos. Now that would be fun! 😃😁😈
That being said, I shared all my positive thoughts about the pack in the other thread!

Boggarts, Redcaps, Slugah, trows, swamp hags, nucklevee, pwca... none of them possible with the fairies we're getting. They weren't possible in Sims 3 either, so I wasn't really expecting them. But still...

2hCreations I find I never use Herbalism Skill because it relies so heavily on a specific world. And it's a vacation world. I'm not there enough, and the harvestables you need are rarely in season. It's genuinely difficult to use. I'm optimistic that Apothecary Skill seems to use some base game harvestables as well.

halisimmer Exactly — that’s what makes herbalism so frustrating! Your Sim wants to learn the basics, and boom — they need to go bug-hunting in the woods.
Couldn’t the creepy crawlies wait until level 5 at least? 😄😆- halisimmer2 months agoSeasoned Ace
2hCreations I play with Herbalism so infrequently I forgot about the creepy crawlies! 😆

I agree wholeheartedly with the illnesses. I wish they would redo the system.
- Make it so the illnesses caught in game needs the same treatment as the illnesses people come to the hospital with. Now medicine takes all and you never need to visit the hospital as a patient unless you're giving birth.
- Herbalism should be able to treat at least some illnesses - in a way that skill makes a difference, not just in what treatments you can make, but whether they work or not. Potentially a poorly made "cure" could be fatal, or make you more sick.
- If the ailment is a bug-bite, treatments from one pack should cover the problem even if it's from another pack.
- Let at least one or two of the illnesses be potentially fatal if not treated.
In this pack I'd rather have seen an expansion of herbalism than a new "skill" that is exactly the same as the old skill. And I don't need yet another table to work on. Let this be done by a kitchen counter, or better yet, the kitchen counter OR the flower arranging table from seasons. While at it ad both medicine making and flower arranging possible at more different tables (there are at least three that looks like it would fit).
