For Rent: What Are Your Plans?

@AncientMuse I love your plan for San Myshuno. I'll gladly take basement apartments in sims than IRL, they flood like crazy here?‍?

I haven't got a really solid plan, but it's very likely that the Roomies household, and possibly the BFFs will end up moving into apartments/townhouses. BFF household will probably end up still being a household unit, but that lot is large, and could easily have a duplex or a couple of townhouses. Roomies will instead end up split into 2 or 3 households in an apartment complex with one of those U or L shaped buildings and a pool.

And some place (not sure what lot yet) will end up a retirement community. I may have to bulldoze a mansion for it, but I'm okay with that.

After that... I'm not sure. I'm not really interested in playing as a landlord, but if I can do extended family on one lot without said family owing "rent" to the main played family or something, I may use the system for that.

I am going to enjoy playing in that world though, trying all the food and learning about the culture as much as I can. It will probably become my default world for a while (until I start missing seasons.)

I've already got a rundown triplex on one of the large lots in Del Sol Valley, so I'm excited that now I can really use it for that purpose. It's one I downloaded from the gallery, and then I added a laundry room, basketball court, and some dumpsters. I haven't created the households for that yet, but I may get started soon.

Nancy L. will definitely become an evil absentee landlord at some point, it's just a question of where. Maybe she can own a small trailer park in either Moonwood Mill or Strangerville... or I could steal @AncientMuse's idea and turn Johnny's trailer into a real trailer park. Or all of the above!

At some point, I'll probably play in an apartment building in Tomarang, probably one of the prebuilds, but I will almost certainly add a vacation rental lot there as well, so my other sims can visit. I definitely want to use the world for both local sims and as a vacation spot, and I'm so glad we have that option now for the newer worlds. I just wish they would add it for the original vacation worlds as well.

I'm definitely planning to add at least one one set of townhouses to San Sequoia, as I have to have my painted ladies there at a minimum, but I'm also thinking about adding a smaller, more modern duplex lot, or a small apartment building, to the downtown area.

San Myshuno is a little trickier, as I would absolutely love to have brownstones there as well, but I'm not sure where I would put them. The best option might be to move the Salt House. I like that lot, and I already have a sim living there, but I might be able to move it to a different world. Maybe San Sequioa, though I'm not sure I have the right spot for it there, either. Or possibly Evergreen Harbour. But that neighborhood is definitely the most appropriate spot for brownstones.

Oooh, and now that I think about it, that would be the perfect spot for a new household I've been wanting to create, which is just a young guy who has one of the new Home Chef Hustle food stands and is going to start selling calzones made from an old family recipe, and then build a culinary empire. Maybe he can eventually move on to a fancier home, but keep his apartment for one of his kids to inherit. It could even be like the banana stand in Arrested Development... all of the kids in the family have to start out working at the old calzone stand and living in the old neighborhood before moving on to help run the family business. I already have a nice Italian restaurant in Newcrest, so it would make sense to move the family to a large home there, and have them buy that restaurant. I have never tried actually owning a restaurant, so it might be a good opportunity to finally do that.

Long story short, I'm not one to just buy a pack, play all the features from the pack, and then set it aside. The best part of a new pack for me is figuring out what the cross-pack functionality is, and speculate about how I might be able to use it in the future if other features are added later.

In general I will probably place apartment lots everywhere around the various worlds.
This is what I wanted from an apartment based pack from the get-go.

Story related, this is perfect pack for my Olivia Banks sim.
Her story has been evolving over time as I have been playing out her life story.

Olivia lost her parents early in life (father while a child, mother right after Uni.). She inherited her mom's home and Clothing Boutique.
Her goal in life is to build a version of the dream home her mother was working towards. Unfortunately that property was bought and bulldozed by Foxbury University for an off-campus dorm. Her mother died shortly thereafter.

She will be moving into the living space over the Clothing Boutique and renting out her mom's home that she inherited.

Her savings will be used to buy a large property where she will rebuild her and her mom's dream house. When she has enough money, she will probably sell her mom's old house and invest in a multi-unit rental property. She will work on her dream home as the money comes in.

My third plan depends on how the apartment system works.
I would like to carve up Hogwarts castle and section off the common rooms as apartments. It depends on how it all works. If it's better than what I have now, I will go with it.

Oh, I've just had a moment of inspiration and I am so excited!

The George Cahill thread the other day reminded me that I've never known what to do with that household or lot. On the one hand, I've never wanted to evict him, because it's such an interesting character and the lot really adds some unique local color to Strangerville. On the other hand, it seems like kind of a waste of space to have all that land tied up for just George and his bunker. But now! Now I can create a desert motel-style apartment and keep George as the landlord and the bunker as his personal living space, with the apartment building above ground.

I can just see George now, grumbling as he fixes the utilities, chasing tenants away from his bunker, etc.

Then for the tenants, I can have an eclectic mix of military personnel, a conspiracy theorist, and some random slobs and drifters. I think this is just what Strangerville needed...

I will try playing as a landlord eventually, probably in a new save. It looks fun enough that I want to try it at least once.

I'll probably take my current spoiled rich girl second gen on a nice long vacation to see the sights in the new world. It really does look breathtaking.

I want all the apartment/multi unit living! Big trailer parks in Oasis Springs and Strangerville! Rows of Creole Cottages in Willow Creek! Run down apartments in the poor section of Del Sol, and big luxury apartments in the richer part! Rows and rows of Painted Ladies in San Sequoia! I actually already have these things, but none of them work as apartments should, of course. And we still don't know if we'll be able to convert existing "faux" apartments into "real" ones with the pack.

I do have big plans, but

• I don't build so I have to wait for the talented builders to start uploading to the gallery for me to download, and
  
• There's still too much up in the air about what will be possible.
  

For example, how many sims will be able to live on one of these lots? If it remains just 8, then that's going to be a major crimp in my plans. I read where someone said the game only allows 20 sims in a zone at one time, so if the devs consider that too many sims living on one lot will decrease the amount of visitors and walk-bys they may continue to keep the number of actual residents low. We just don't know enough yet, sadly. Or at least I don't. If anyone has any updates, please share!

Gameplay centred around a caravan/trailer park is going through my head at the moment.

Oh yes, my plan is following: Since I love the decadechallenge so much, my main family will move to the old Windenburg (build with my own houses) and start in a one-room basement apartment in a tenement at the harbor. It won't be a fine or safe area, they will be very poor and try to make some income with selling bread or other stuff at the market place. Slowly but steady they should make their progress in to the middle class and move to better apartments. Later they should own a shop and their own house likewise their own apartments. My plans are also to let the extended family live together on big Lot. Later the siblings of the heirs should live also in tenement or in a Semi-detached houses. But the whole plan depends on how the gameplay is actually implemented.

As for the world, I haven't seen enough yet.
