This happened to me too. I was playing the Delgato family and their dog, Blue, ran away. I posted a missing dog incident on the computer but I couldn't bear to see the little boy and toddler sad so I cheated. I reset Blue so that he came back but the kids were still sad. So I used the sims.remove_all_buffs cheat on them and everybody was happy again :)
Once I restarted the game, the dog was truly gone. Then the parents were able to post the alert. She's back now. :)
