I have noticed that they are doing performance updates, but as far as these older save files I think it's difficult for them to improve. I think the best one can do is be mindful about what packs to install and maybe be prepared to maybe have to make a new save one day. But I wouldn't really want to do that, in this old save I have done so many different things with many different households and if I would start a new save I would probably want to do that all over again and... I don't think I would find the strength to do that.
That's a good tip that I guess I could start moving some sims over, and not think about moving them all over at once.
My one save file is pretty old as well. What I would do different, if I needed to create a new one, would be to keep all the Townies and just create one sim of my own (my Dulci).
While I love all of the sims I've created for each world (at least one, but sometimes as many as three different households), I've recently become fascinated with the pre-made Townies and how interacting with more of them could be.

Yeah the premade sims are interesting because I have given them makeovers and if I would start a new save I would probably want to do those makeovers again. I wouldn't want to paste them from my old save because that would remove the relationships they have and they would also have too many skills. So I actually looked up if there was a way that you could copy the entire look of a sim to another sim and there is, you can do that with MC Cas in MC Command Center, you can copy the entire look and body of a sim and paste unto another sim.
Here is a demonstration where I tried it where I took Kaori from my old save, saved her and then I copied her look to the premade Kaori in a new save.
