Horse Ranch or For Rent??? Bugginess?

I would choose Horse Ranch over For Rent. I enjoy playing with animals, and the horses, mini goats, and sheep are great additions. Nectar-making is a fun new skill and a good way to make extra money. You'll need a larger lot for horses, but the sheep and goats don't require much room. They're easy to care for. 

I haven't had a lot of bugs with either pack, but I think For Rent has more issues than Horse Ranch. I've only worked a little with the rental gameplay. But if you're conservative with the number of rentals in a save, chances of issues are lower. Make sure you read rental guidelines before you download or build units.

Yeah, I think I have to agree with you. I do think I'd enjoy Horse Ranch more and I can always pick up For Rent later, hoping they get most of the bugs fixed, although there's no reason for me to be optimistic!

I have enjoyed both. Horse Ranch is rather niche, and as long as you build ranches, own horses, train them there is a lot to do, but it doesn't influence the rest of the game that much, other than CAS & BB. The world is beautiful as are the horses. Other than that, I think those who has already spoken about Horse Ranch has said it all. 

For rent on the other hand, influence the rest of my game A LOT. I build rentals almost in every world, to fit more NPCs, and I also live in rentals a lot. I have only semi played a landlord once, but lived in tons of rentals with my sims. I really like that option. I have complexes with several smaller houses with communal pools, I have townhouses wall to wall, I have apartments... One time I had two sisters share a house in that the bedrooms were private space but the rest of the house was communal. However, there are bugs. The cursed book fire bug nearly ruined my game until I figured out how to get rid of it. The pack also fits poorly with cottage living and horse ranch, as any animals placed on communal grounds will appear dirty and unhappy when switching households. Horses placed in stables that are communal grounds, will often vanish when you switch households. The world in For rent is also boring. Pretty, but boring, and with really nothing more to offer than rabbit holes and lots of unused space. 

At least you could play as a horse or unicorn in sims 3. I found that to be amusing gameplay. 

Go with Horse Ranch!  It is a beautiful semi-open world with lots to do. The nectar making ability is a great way to make money for a healthy income.

For rent on the otherhand has a useless world and is nothing but loading screens. If you want sims to live with you it is far better to have them as roommates. Why it doesn't work like that is beats me, I mean look at univercity where all the townies live together without loading screens. I bought this pack so I could have my sims parents live with my sims without having to control them but they might as well live on a different lot.

 If you play as a landlord you are constantly loading screens to go to the suites whenever something breaks down. The most annoying pack ever. The only thing I use from this pack is the buy, build and cas.

I agree about the loading screens with the new rentals. My sims want to go next door or to another part of the same building but still have to wait through a reload. The loading screens don't take too long for me, but it's still annoying. It's tedious and discourages me from visiting neighbors. 

lanlynk  I also have a gaming computer and loading screens are quick, never the less it ruins the game. If it is possible to enter other sims rooms in the university pack, surely it could be possible to do so in the rental pack.  Feels like pure laziness on behalf of EA. It is after all an expansion pack , not a game pack.  Not worth the money.

SimmervilleI feel the same about Horse Ranch. I didn't get it for the horses, but it's one of my favourites: it has a large world with a variety of good builds (I don't renovate them immediately), and the build style and gameplay go well with Cottage Living and Eco Lifestyle if you enjoy an Off The Grid or Rags To Riches like I do. I don't use the nectar skill much, but I will collect and sell it. columbia93 it sounds like you'd enjoy Horse Ranch, and should start there. I'd buy or recommend most packs at 50%. (I also enjoy For Rent, and was surprised by how much of the build/buy I re-use - plants, floors, appliances, clutter - but the point about loading screens is fair and accurate.)

columbia93I forgot about the mini goats and sheep! I would buy Horse Ranch just for them. I use them in every save (again, a good combination with Cottage Living and Eco Livestyle).
