I think it was around 2001 or 2002, and I don't really remember exactly how I came to have Sims on my computer at the time, but I just remember it being a good way to waste some time; it was an okay game and I'd play it if I had a bit of time to myself and was bored. I'd look up gameplay tips online and eventually ran into ads for Sims 2, and had a couple friends who were looking forward to Sims 2 as well, so I figured I'd get it once it was released.
Got hooked on Sims 2. It just resonated with me in a way that the original game hadn't. Pretty sure it introduced aging, if I remember correctly, so there was now the possibility of generational legacies and that kept me playing for hours. Got most of the packs for it. I never got into the Sims 3 the same way and eventually moved on to Sims 4 and have been playing it ever since.
