How do I "Promote Cause" in the Politician Career?

I am really embarrassed to even ask, but I just couldn't find the answer. I googled but most of the results were for career cheats. One place mentioned clicking the ground and "protest" so I did thi...

You have to click on a random sim and choose politician career from friendly interactions and there you should be able to click on the promote cause option. :)
