How Do You Choose CC?

I have 18th century cc clothing for both male and female in my game. I have some plain wooden blocks for the Toddlers, too, to keep it more attuned to that specific Time Period. My Sims use their cell phones and computers, however. I once had the perfect disguise, if you will, for the computer. I had a loom that used the computer mesh (I guess), so my Sim could look as if they were in the midst of weaving some cloth. I added some hair, too. Some that I just liked (mostly long hair for females) and I found some Old World wood flooring. :) I also found some 18th century style wall paper. Other than that, I'm pretty content with what EA has placed in the game.

I don't use CC or mods ever with the Sims4 and I don't feel that I need it but I do wish there was more and better content available. That said I used tons of CC and Mods in Sims3 and I got a Virus and Mal ware from CC that destroyed my Thousand dollar computer so I do not use it anymore.

I used to strictly limit myself to CAS that I need for my setting, be that elf ears or a police badge wearable with plain clothes, but got more lenient over time. Especially with custom foods there can never be enough. Or if an item fits my my favorite sims particularly well - favorites get spoiled now and then even if the game already has options for them.

I am a dedicated rampager. I'm switching from a mix of maxis match and alpha to all maxis match but I will still be scouring the internet daily for both. I'm moving my alpha stuff to a folder on the desktop where I'll keep adding things. Last night when I redecorated my author sims home I realized the one area of MM where I'm lacking is decor, so that's the project this weekend, download a bunch of those items.

I have 4 different ways which CC gets added to my game:

1. The game is lacking and I go looking for it. Makeup, facial hair, Jewelry, decor (specifically clutter), and curtains/blinds are categories of CC I have downloaded a lot of because of this.
2. When I'm doing an active search for something (#1 above), if I see something else that I also like, I will download it as well. A ton of the clothes and BB CC that I use fall into this category.
3. I follow a lot of my favorite CC creators on Tumblr and if I see things in my feed that I like the look of, I will download it. Most of the hairs and shoes, as well as quite a lot of clothing that I've downloaded has been due to this.
4. Functional CC, as in CC that is in reality both CC and a mod...I'll always grab this when I see it or hear about it, unless it looks ugly. More gameplay is good. A ton of Ravasheen, Brazenlotus and PandaSama CC that I use falls in this category.

I have a total of 6.5 GB of cc in my game so far, and I really try very hard not to download anything that I don't think looks absolutely fantastic outside of the 1st and 4th options above. For those I settle for things that look decent, because they are filling a need, rather than just a desire.

There are only a few Sims I stick with in my Sims games, so CC is always for a very specific purpose.

Now if we're talking about mods on the other hand...

Um when I first started I downloaded like crazy. Now I’m just more like oh that’s cute or when I feel like I want some new stuff.

I binge CC from time to time and a lot of it will break my game and the chore of finding what's broken usually convinces me to delete everything and start over fresh

I don't download CC anymore, but when I did I got a lot of stuff that looked pretty, was well made, without glitches and was maxis match. I liked completer sets, recolours, and conversions and a lot of plants too. Tried not to get too many options of certain items as it would become tiresome to wade through it and select what was needed. I kept them very nicely sorted and categorized in the downloads folder by type, creator, recolours were kept with the meshes, etc. I also kept in game only CC I was actively using, removed recolours I didn't like, or things that were too similar.
