You can go into Manage Households and just unclick the heart icon on the family you want to change from "played" status to "unplayed"...hope that makes sense, if not I'll try to get a screenshot for you later
I don't recommend this. Families moved into "Other Household" category may get cull. If you still want to do this, you can try installing 'no cull' mod. Mccc mod have the 'no cull' option I think.
