How hard would it be to do layers in CAS?

I've wanted this since before Sims 3 Seasons was released. I would very much like to see this but I think that ship has sailed, unfortunately. Seasons would have been the perfect time to include it, what with the new clothing categories. I doubt we'll see it happen. I'll be very pleasantly surprised if it happens in this game one day.

I would also like the same concept with hair to be honest. Like you have a base (short/medium/long), and can decide yourself which part (side/middle) and if the hairstyle has bangs or not.

Maybe they will implement it into TS5? A concept like this would definitely prevent sims from looking the same all the time.

At this point, it would be difficult for the same reason it would be difficult to introduce CASt: there are too many existing CAS assets to rework, and not to mention CC pieces that would be incompatible with the new system. This sort of thing would be better off included from the start.

I imagine that for a clothing layer system, they'd have to include a bunch of slots for inner and outer layers. Then the inner layer clothes would need an alternate mesh for when another layer is placed on top, kind of like how hairstyles in this game have a separate mesh for when hats are applied. It would be very complex.

Yes! I thought about that too! Instead of having a single hairstyle, you can modify parts by adding bangs, a base, etc. It would really add to the customization. There are still a lot of possibilities to explore

I've already seen CC creators make jackets and put them under an accesories category (gloves, ring, etc) and they work just fine. If they created a new category within the accessories section it would probably just as well.

Yeah but those only work on tops that don't intrude on the jacket's mesh. In order for EA do this they would need to make it so that every top is compatible only way to do that is to give each top two or more meshes they can switch to when you put on a jacket. Not to mention some tops aren't compatible texture wise. I remember trying one of those cc jackets and the texture bleed onto the top I chose underneath. At this point they would also need to expand the texture map so that jackets have their own place on it.

It'd be very difficult. It can't be done the same way CC creators do it because accessory clothing comes with a lot of issues (it'll clip through certain clothes and stuff like that.) No company would really want to even potentially allow combinations of outfits where clipping would occur because it would be a bad reflection on them and it would open them up for criticism.

So in order to do it in a way where combinations are restricted and no clipping can occur, they would probably have to revamp the entire clothing system that the game has, and make the categories more modular. It's an interesting idea for the next game but I think it's too late for this one.

It would be great. It has been done is The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Pets for consoles.

I wasn't aware of this, thank you for bringing this up. The CC jacket I have is pretty loose fitting and doesn't clip through very many meshes so I hadn't thought of it.

Making clothes properly layerable would probably take forever. I’m just glad they made it so pants can go into boots and such because ts3 had a lot of clipping.
