I have a problem with the kleptomaniac trait. Basically I work really hard on my lots and like to add in various little things like toilet roll holder and such to make it realistic.Since the patch came out I made one of my sim a klepto so I could make her steal, now I can't take her anywhere because she steals without me directing her to steal. Even worse townies with the trait are spawned by the game and they also steal from my community lots. So I want to know is there any way to get rid of this trait as it is seriously messing up my way of playing.

Short answer - no. It's been patched into the core game. The most you can do is choose NOT to give it to a sim and to delete any townies with the trait through Household Mgt. Your game will still spawn new ones, though.

I'm sorry but I had to laugh when I read that you made a kleptomaniac sim but you can't take her anywhere because she steals even when you don't direct her to. It means they've added a very realistic trait into the game. :)Understandable though, as the player, that you would prefer to manage your sim's actions yourself and have your sim steal when YOU want to rather than when your sim wants to. The player is supposed to rule and I think this is one of the problems with this game; the sims are so self sufficient that the player doesn't rule as much as the player might like! Basically, they've made the game so well that the sims themselves don't need any direction from the player; they particularly good at directing themselves. The thing is, are smart sims what players want or would they prefer their sims to be dumbed down a little? For myself, I prefer to partake in my game rather than just watch as the play unfolds.

Is there some way to accuse someone of theft and make them return it? It'd be a nice thing to add if it goes out of hand like it seems with your game. :o Last I've checked, I've only got about 5-6 sims with klepto, but they're not really good at stealing since there's so many sims around that they get caught.

I found it reasonable with it just being my sim as I found it amusing and made the choice that she is simply under house arrest from now on. What I find more troubling is the sims I don't control at all, random spawned sims stealing things is just infuriating. Amusing but annoying, still I like to think somewhere somesim is suffering from some serious stomach ache to be needing all that paper.

I find it awesome when the traits work so well there is no denying what trait your sim has. There are enough useless traits so it is good that klepto sims actually do what the trait intended!!

Yes, I tend to be rather controlling of my sims. I found it reasonable with it just being my sim as I found it amusing and made the choice that she is simply under house arrest from now on. I was wondering if they would steal on their own. I think it's kind of neat that they do. Although I'm sure I'll be annoyed having to redecorate my lots after my kleptos have been through them.

I also wonder, if your non-active sims are out stealing on their own and you rotate back to their house, will you find all kinds of goodies in their inventory? That would be awesome! lol!

My klepto kid steal so much. Out with his parents having Sunday breakfast at the cafe.... "swipe" every sim in the cafe *gasps* at him because he did it in full view of everyone. The next thing my sim (the kids dad) auto tells him a life's lesson. :D

Also very realistic, since children generally have less impulse control than adults. ;)

i only have had my sims steal on their own when at school or work. which is fine since i really dont care for the negative emotion each day if they havent stolen anything. do you have free will on i dont so i havent had any townies steal and my sims only sim when im playing them if i direct them to

I always play with free will on. Don't think I've ever turned free will off ever as I really like all the autonomous things sims will do. I have to admit to liking the 'negative' moodlets as well! lol I like my sims to have some sort of struggle even if it just a weak moodlet easily overcome by eating an apple or something.

But yeah, turning free will off/autonomy off should stop the kleptos from stealing unless directed to.
