How to Write Descriptions for the Gallery?

I'm wanting them to sound persuasive and intriguing, but whenever I write, it just sounds generic and poorly written. I tried looking for simmers and realtors who do, but it's either too wordy, vague, or just empty.
  • I just go with whatever I feel like. Sometimes nothing, sometime a more descriptive text about the sim (like skills or work) which is mostly for me but I also know simmers who download from the gallery and doesn't want sims with skills etc so I guess it's for them as well.

On occasion I'll write a little story for how I see the sims, sometimes I don't even though they still play a specific role in my game.

I think you should think about why you put so much thought into it, is it for yourself or in the hopes people get interested and download? Cuz downloads doesn't really mean anything right, it's just stressful to think about.

But for what it's worth, just focus on less is more I'd say. You don't have to write a lifestory just a little thing if any, like "Effie grew up in the city of San Myshuno after her parents split and her dad decided to get into politics. Now, as an adult herself, she feels a strong need to find herself and travels back to the sunlit tides of Sulani to explore her herritage and reconnect with her mother"... ok that was longer than I thought but I think you might get my point XD

Yeah, I overthink ?. I'm really trying to impress both myself and simmers. I'm still enjoying building houses, but I also want good feedback.

This doesn’t help answer your question, but when I download from the gallery, I don’t read the descriptions at all. ?
  • @Sendillin Damn , a trait I don't have: being funny. Otherwise, that would be an advantage.

@Rouenpucelle Yeah, I noticed how some people don't care anymore, but I've also read how people have missed it (mostly for Sims) to help differentiate from the bad downloadable content. I don't know, I guess I'm trying to be different and not be lazy. ??‍♀️
  • I don't upload very many Sims or lots to the Gallery, but with lots, I try to give a thorough list of what's inside since it's tough to see stuff in the tiny preview pics. Plus, half the time can't even see the backyard. I like to give a link to an Imgur slideshow in the comments section to help with that too. I also use hashtags to let anyone interested in downloading it know what, if any in-game cheats were used to create it.

For the few Sims I've uploaded, I like to tell a little backstory about who they are, what they were intended for; a contest, challenge, etc. Sometimes I try to inject a little humor in their description as well. I think Simmers like it when you try to be a bit creative describing them. My most downloaded Maxis curated Sim seems to hold up this belief. Yes, he's handsome (at least I think so), but what most of the comments said about him was how much they liked his backstory.

Just have fun with it, don't stress and...

    Happy Simming! <3

I'm actually more the opposite in this case. I like it when someone puts a description down. Even if it's brief, just explaining the inspiration behind the creation, is cool too. If it's different languages and I'm curious, it's easy enough to translate it. :)
  • I try for a mix of subtle dark humor with a bit about what type of sim would best fit the house. Not sure if I succeed in that, but it's fun to try.

For a building, I basically put what my intent for building it was. I may mention that some of the pack stuff is only minor stuff like decorations, to help people decide if it's worth it. If it's a costly house, for example, I put that there is alot of paintings and stuff that could be sold to get some of the money back after a sim or household buys the lot. That sort of thing.

Even though it shows up anyways, I mention the original creator that I modified it from. If it wasn't one I made from scratch.

I'm more technical than 'pretty words', heh! ;)
