if you could give Disney heroines last names what would you give them?

I'd pick a surname from the fairy tale's original ethnic background. Something fitting for her character, or just something that has a nice sound to it when combined with the first name

So what about Cinderella which there are a million versions of from all other the world? And there are a ton of Fairytales which come from same ethinic background of Europe (Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping beauty. Rapunzel, The Little Mermaid)

I'd pick one based on where the Disney heroines live. Classics or the Pixar ones (Elsa and Anna from Frozen, Merida from Brave). In their cases, it's gonna be European or Celtic.

Cinderella. if you cut it down, Cindy used to be Cynthia which is Greek in origin but the story itself is also Greek in origin. So use an ancient Greek name from the time. I'd go for Cinderella Naucratis if i were to put a name on it, because she was of Naucratis according to the story before she was married off to an Egyptian king.

Rapunzel is possibly adapted from a number of sources, that itself isn't original and yet has become accepted as such. Still I'd name her Rapunzel Schulz as the surname is based off the original authors surname, Friedrich Schulz.

Snow White is based of a German tale, but it wasn't limited to that one either, there was an Italian adaption of the storyline where the dwarves were replaced by criminals. Snow while in that case was Bella Venezia, so i'd name her with that name.

It's the sort of thing i'd do to keep them individual enough without turning them into yet another clone of others.

@Hoverael the original Cinderella was actually called Rhodpis or something. But I guess using the Greek name (because the character was Greek) would work.

Anyone who doesn't know or doesn't remember want to know how I would name the Disney heroines?

Not to seem rude, but i already mentioned this. I'm not debating what the Greek name is but rather simply to point out as you are asking what surname you'd give as you asked. I have provided some idea what you could do. So now I'm going to leave you to it and move along.

Whatever your choice, i hope you find something nice to come up with. Good luck on that. :smile:

If you want to post about the names you picked, why not do that from the start instead of asking for advice and shutting it down ?

I believe Cinderella's family name in the Disney version was Tremaine. I know people like to attribute that to just her stepmother, but odds are that "Lady Tremaine" is the title the stepmother acquired upon marrying Cinderella's father, rather than a title she brought with her. (Not impossible, just unlikely) So I'd use that.

Aroura I'd have to dig up if they gave any further characterization to Stephen's realm beyond his being king, but I don't think they did. I'd have to watch the movie again and see if I could pick up anything from the heraldry.

Snow White - okay, here I'd seriously have to think, because there's so little to go on in the movie. probably just pick a Prussian noble family name and go with that.

Ariel would get some variation of "from the sea" or "of the sea" ... not sure what language, probably Dutch.

Belle... Belle should have a family name, but it's possible that it's never mentioned (and between the animated movie, the live action movie and having helped with a high school production of the play, the various lines of dialogue are getting muddled in my head.) Without it being mentioned, I'd try to find the french translation of "Tinker" as in "Tinker about" or "fiddle with the mechanics"

Mulan has one (Fa or Hua)

Alice has one (Liddle, though that's knowledge outside the movie.)

I'm pretty sure Tianna has one (sad to say I haven't watched The Princess and the Frog to the point of memorization yet.)

And I think most of the Pixar generation ladies have family names, except perhaps Rapunzel. (For Elsa and Ana, it helps to read Futhark and know Icelandic naming rules.)

Wow some of these answers are really thoughtful and deep , I would just have gone with Disney.

Disney skews towards Northern Europe with most of its fairytale adaptations. I think surnames should follow the vibe of the movies as much as historical origins, otherwise it's less Disney and more straightup folklore. Some suggestions:

Belle is Belle Barbot. Barbot de Villenueve is the last name of one of the first published writers of the story though its origins are much older. Barbot is easy to pronounce and it's alliterative

Ariel probably has no last name as a mermaid (but maybe Ariel Neptune?) As a married human, Ariel Lavard. Lavard is a last name associated with an early Danish prince.

Aurora is Aurora Fountainebleau. Sleeping Beauty is all over the place. The names of other royal characters in the movie suggest a Hapsburg-esque lineage, so anywhere between Portugal and Austria. Fountainebleau means 'blue fountain' and it sounds fancy.

Cinderella is Ella Tremaine. Her stepmother Lady Tremaine is the widow of Lord Tremaine, Ella's biological father.

Rapunzel is a hard one. In the older tales she was the daughter of peasants, so naming her after a common raddish-like plant would be fine. In the Disney adaptation she's kidnapped (probably Austrian/German) royalty and would not have been christened after a raddish. I'm guessing Rapunzel is the name Mother Gothel gave her to hide her, so...her name is either Rapunzel Gothel or a true royal name like Adelaide Hanover or Frederica von Corona (named after her father, and her the kingdom as their last name).

Snow White is Snow Leblanc if her mother was avant-garde and actually named her Snow, or her name is something like Neve Leblanc and Snow is a nickname.

Jasmine is Jasmine Bobolonius. As goofy as it sounds Disney canon says the Sultan’s grandfather’s (the founder of Agrabah) last name is Bobolonius. So there we go.

Merida is Merida DunBroch - That’s a no-brainer.

Tiana is Tiana Chase. Leyah Chase was an old New Orleans restaurateur who was an inspiration for the character.

Elsa and Anna are Elsa and Anna Agnarrsdotter

Mulan is Mulan Hua or Hua Mulan if you want to be more accurate. It’s in the movie, though it’s pronounced ‘Fa’ there.
