Insight On Why Mental Health In The Sims is a Big NO for Me @SimGurus @SimGuruGrant (Please read!)

Here are my thoughts on adding mental health to the sims, I am going to use depression as an example.
Not everyone's depression is the same. There's mild depression all the way to Major Depression (the severest form of depression). Even if they added different severities of depression it still wouldn't be accurate because in real life everyone experiences mental health differently and each person has a variety of different symptoms and some symptoms are more severe than others for the individual. Also if they added moderate to severe depression they would need to add the common symptom "suicidal Ideation" and that is an extremely inappropriate feature to add to a Teen rated(13+) game like The sims.

p.s This is just my experience and opinion, I'm not here to tell you that "you are wrong, I'm right". No one is "right" or "wrong", I am not "right" or "wrong", this is just my opinion. I hope we can have a calm and respectful discussion. Thanks all

p.s btw I'm doing a LOT better currently, there have been many setbacks but I keep on trying! I've been in therapy for many years and it's starting to help a lot and the meds I'm taking help a tinsy bit too (meds usually didn't work). I have a lot of people supporting me.

Same, but only because it will never be able to be implemented correctly to ensure proper representation across all affected peoples. Either they do it right or not at all.
  • I don’t want to see mental illness in the game either. Not everyone has the same experience and I fear the sims would make light of it or worse show every sim having the same reaction, the same behaviours and a “quick fix” and poof they are cured. I can’t think of anything more triggering or upsetting as to play a horrible real life scenario in a game that is used for entertainment.

That being said, I don’t think they will focus on mental illness. At least I hope not. I wouldn’t want physical disabilities either.

    Hey folks,

I'm closing this discussion down. Mental health is a delicate issue that affects many people - that said, while I understand it's relevance to the Sims has come up lately, we need to be mindful of how we discuss this and where we draw the line between discussing systems in the game that might support mental health of Sims and oversharing about our personal lives. While I appreciate the forthcoming nature of some people here, the forums aren't the place for these discussions - especially not when we veer into a discussion of concepts such as suicidal ideation and the diverse array of mental health issues people deal with and they're implications for gameplay.
