So everyone knows the perfect genetics challenge, right? Create a founder with unusual hair and eye colour and go through ten generations without losing that hair and eye colour. All your heirs have to have the same hair and eye colour as the founder.This was simple enough in TS3. Everything was 50/50, so odds were, every other child would usually have perfect genetics.I started a perfect genetics challenge in TS4 and I just want to rip my hair out. I made a founder with aqua-blue hair (not custom) and custom fantasy blue eyes (which are enabled for children as well, I use that eye set on my child Sims all the time). She married Travis Scott so all her kids are with him. My founder has had six kids with him and five of them have been blonde like their dad. There's only been one child born without blonde hair and her hair was red. Now I know children can't have any of the unusual hair colours but when they become a teen, they should take on the unnatural colour of their parent so I figure that girl's probably going to end up with blue hair but her eyes are her dad's.This is really frustrating. Out of six kids, at least one of them should have been born with perfect genetics. I'm about ready to scrap this file entirely, it's not fun anymore. :( Is it just completely impossible to do a perfect genetics challenge in TS4? That's what it's starting to look like for me.

I tried something like this, and it doesn't work for the unnatural colors, even though they are Maxis. The kids keep the hair color they were born with into adulthood unless you change it in CAS. Of course that defeats the purpose though :frowning:

The game doesn't use "proper" genetics. For example, if you create 2 sims with blond hair, a child will have blond hair. If you change their hair color to brown, a child could then have brown hair, even though the sims original hair color was blond. The Sims 2 is the only game to have a good genetics system in place. The game recognizes the original hair color assigned to the sim regardless of your sims hair color changing.

This is intended behaviour. The unnatural hair colours are supposed to be dyed hair. It's not genetic.

The aliens have pink and blue hair. Start the challenge with a sim that is half-alien and it should be inheritable. At least it is in CAS.

Is creating perfect genetics impossible in this game?

I tried something like this, and it doesn't work for the unnatural colors, even though they are Maxis. The kids keep the hair color they were born with into adulthood unless you change it in CAS. Of course that defeats the purpose though :frowning:

I started this challenge as well and was not able to get far at all. The kids always came out with brown hair (even though neither parent had brown hair) and a random eye color.

I've found this as well, it's such a shame, I don't see why they couldn't make the genetics work properly for all hair colours? :-(. Guess I need to look for a new challenge too.

@Ashleigh825 You mention that the custom eye color works for kids - but is it inheritable? I've seen some custom sets mention specifically that they were inheritable, and that makes me assume some might not be coded to be.

Yes, this is what happens unfortunately. I tried this challenge a couple of months ago because I was incredibly bored and I didn't enjoy the 100 Baby Challenge as much as I thought I would. I really hope the Sims team will fix this thing with a patch or something because the light blue and lavender hair colors are two of my favourite in the game, they are even prettier than some of the custom ones I've downloaded. Maybe it has something to do with the rating of the game? The unnatural hair colors for kids I mean.

But, there are downloadable unnatural hair colors for tots and kids. Although, when creating a teen kid by genes, the colours inherit:)
