I also played sims 3 and i know 'how to make it playable'. But what im saying is that without those tweaks/mods it's unplayable imo. I never said it is unplayable with mods.
But I never mentioned that mods were what I used to keep my game running smoothly. You assumed.
My main issue with TS3 was insufficient memory. I had every expansion pack and practically the entire store. In addition, I crammed my game with all manner of cc hairs, clothing, skin tones, and furnishing. Any time that my game acted up, I knew that I had picked up bad cc or I'd choked it with too much. I learned to do regular housekeeping with my downloads folder. If I downloaded something new, I got rid of something old that I didn't want anymore or that I never used. I also learned how to clear my cache files after every game. If my game was slowing down during a play session, I saved, shut down, and booted back up again.
I didn't take the plunge with error-correcting mods such as More Awesome Than You and then NRaas until nearer the end of TS3's life cycle, I knew that I wouldn't have to update as often. NRaas gave me the greater control that I'd been looking for. However, my game was smooth, playable, and enjoyable before that.
