I think in live mode the sim is "brighter" because of the lighting.
Here's a pic of the same sim in both CAS and in-game on my computer. I don't really notice much loss of detail, the only thing I see is that she is brighter, which makes her skin lighter.

it's really different for me
these are two different computers but the quality in CAS is about the same
you can see the arm hair at least is quite detailed and sharp
