Is anybody else having a problem with the elementals not showing up when a Child of the Islands sim summons them? I used to be able to get three to show up, then it reduced to one, and now none of the...

That is a very interesting difference. Could you please tell me where to find both interactions. I don't play in English so knowing where to find these actions would help me to pick the right one. I want to create a supersim and want to give the baby a unique headstart.
It's a friendly interaction that appears after building a positive relationship.
The interactions your sims can perform depends on their traits, skills, relationship, and careers.
For the sims with the Child of the Island Trait, they can ask for their judgement before the elemental passes judgement, but I've seen the Elemental pass judgement mid conversation or seek out the the Child of the Islands to pass judgement while idle.
Here are some of my Merman/ Elemental Abilities at work
Bringing the Lightning (From the Storm Chaser Trait and Increased Odds thanks to the Mermadic ability Call Thunderstorm)
For merfolk that can control the weather, they can sustain a perpetual thunderstorm and increase their chances of getting struck twice. Dylan was sleeping in the ocean when he was struck twice.
Combined with Volcanic Eruptions from the Volcanic Activity Trait
Elemental Merfolk can cause real damage to a lot in two sims day. This is most of the lot that doesn't have roof. They charred most of the furniture or completely blocked the path. A few extra are from the volcano erupting while the others are from summoning a lava bomb. I haven't gotten this destructive again, but between the screen shaking during eruptions and the lightning strikes, I almost scared myself a little. I might have gotten carried away.
