It's a new game, that's what happened. Sims 4 isn't an upgrade of Sims 3; it's a different game. - My sims couple got married yesterday and I was surprised that the name didn't change. For me this is essential. A common name to me means family. If it is a feminist thing (what I don't think), they should at least have given us the option too choose, which partner wants to take over the name or maybe have a combined name. But in my opinion they just FORGOT to implement this. Really disappointing. This needs to be added. ASAP!

Ah, crud. This is not good at all. :( I sure as hell hope they can fix it.
It'll come in an EP dubbed as a "feature ""BWpunisher;12558726" wrote:
You cannot change the last name in CAS via testing cheats. It tells you that you cannot modify pre-created sims or something along those lines. You can only edit their appearance through that.
False.
You can change the names when you use testing cheats plus the full edit cheat. ;)"MsPhy;12567176" wrote:
Hmm. I didn't do the #3 one, but maybe this is the sorcery that's needed?
You had to have. Editing Sims' names is impossible without the 'cas.fulleditmode' cheat.- haloujaNew Spectator

I absolutely agree with you - we should have the option so we can choose. My newly married female sim and her new husband now live in her house but he still has his original surname instead of taking hers, as I wanted, to continue the family line; I am not a happy bunny! :( - mlnov39Seasoned SpectatorThe only easy way to change a baby's name, for now, seems to be when they're born.
But just be sure to remember the last name of the dad. I forgot dad's last name and couldn't
change it! I was so annoyed! :s - I'm ole fashioned. I think it should pop up a window when they get married and you can put in what you want it to be. Or ask do you want her name to be _______ or ________ as a choice.
- Ok, it's not just me. I have to manage/merge my households too, and the last names don't change either. I knew the game would be stripped of a lot of features, but this should not have been one of them. I'm almost regretting not waiting for it to go on sale before buying it. At least there would've been an expansion pack and a patch or two by then.
- I really think saying this is about feminism or about EA not supporting marriage is giving the issue way more weight than it deserves. It is an issue, maybe even a bug (which, I mean, come on, we bought The Sims X, we KNEW we were getting bugs). They'll either fix it or ignore us, probably the latter since that's their historical take on many issues, depending on how wrapped into a last name other code is. I suspect this isn't an easy fix and was a known issue before launch. There are several sites on the iNet where people who either played prerelease or got leaked information listed issues...some of which have come to pass in the final release, and others that, thankfully, haven't.
Work-arounds via testingcheats are just a part of playing The Sims to me at this point. Perhaps Maxis is a decent company, but EA isn't, and I've yet to play something they touched that wasn't borked horribly in some important way....at the same time, they have amazing titles that are the equivalent of videogame crack, and so I'm here with my $70 copy of The Sims 4 for better or worse.
