Let's Combine Packs!

The amount of DLC in The Sims 4 is a lot. Here's an comparison of the number of DLC in each game:

  • The Sims 1: 7 (7 EP)
  • The Sims 2: 18 (8 EP, 10 SP, not counting Store exclusives)
  • The Sims 3: 20 (11 EP, 9 SP, not counting Store content)
  • The Sims 4: 90 (18 EP, 12 GP, 20 SP, 40 kits, and going)

And here's a drop down list of all the DLC in The Sims 4 (yeah, it's long):

How would you do it? What DLCs would you combine and why?

Some of these are really difficult to lump together, but I'd probably go with these:

      • Get to Work, Businesses & Hobbies, Dine Out, Dream Home Decorator, Home Chef Hustle
      • Get Together, Movie Hangout, Bowling Night
      • City Living, Industrial Loft, For Rent
      • Cats & Dogs, Cottage Living, Horse Ranch, My First Pet
      • Seasons
      • Get Famous, Luxury Party, Vintage Glamour, Moschino, Secret Sanctuary, Spa Day, Décor to the Max, Modern Luxe
      • Island Living
      • Discover University, High School Years
      • Eco Lifestyle
      • Snowy Escape, Outdoor Retreat, Jungle Adventure
      • Growing Together, Parenthood, Kids Room, Toddler, Little Campers, First Fits, Storybook Nursery
      • Lovestruck, My Wedding Stories
      • Life & Death
      • Vampires, StrangerVille, Realm of Magic, Werewolves, Spooky, Paranormal, Crystal Creations
      • Perfect Patio, Romantic Garden, Backyard, Poolside Splash
      • Blooming Rooms, Greenhouse Haven
      • Courtyard Oasis, Desert Luxe
      • Cool Kitchen, Country Kitchen
      • Fitness, Throwback Fit
      • Laundry Day, Bust the Dust, Everyday Clutter, Bathroom Clutter, Basement Treasures
      • Grunge Revival, Goth Galore
      • Simtimates Collection, Sweet Slumber Party

I'm not sure where to place Journey to Batuu because I don't own that one, and most of the kits are difficult to place, too. The same goes for Tiny Living and Nifty Knitting, and I think Seasons as well as Life and Death are perfect stand-alones.

Hmm... I'll put together a list of combinations inspired by previous games.

I follow one rule: all expansion packs and game packs must appear at least once. I can leave out some stuff packs otherwise.

    The Sims 3:

    1. World Adventures - Snowy Escape, Outdoor Retreat, Jungle Adventures, StrangerVille
    2. Ambitions - Get to Work, Eco Lifestyle, Businesses & Hobbies, Dine Out, Dream Home Decorator, Laundry Day sp, Home Chef Hustle sp
    3. Late Night - Get Together, City Living, For Rent
    4. Generations - High School Years, Growing Together, Lovestruck, Life & Death, Parenthood, My Wedding Stories, Kids Room sp, Toddler sp, Nifty Knitting sp
    5. Pets - Cats & Dogs, Cottage Living, Horse Ranch, My First Pet sp
    6. Showtime - Get Famous (it wouldn't have much else otherwise...), Spa Day, Luxury Party sp, Vintage Glamour sp
    7. Supernatural - Vampires, Realm of Magic, Werewolves, Paranormal sp, Crystal Creations sp
    8. Seasons - Seasons, Spooky sp, Romantic Garden sp, Perfect Patio sp, Backyard sp
    9. University Life - Discover University, Bowling Night sp, Fitness sp, Tiny Living sp
    10. Island Paradise - Island Living
    11. Into the Future - Journey to Batuu?

    The Sims 2:

    1. University - Discover University
    2. Nightlife - Get Together, Get Famous, Lovestruck, Life & Death, Dine Out, Vampires, Bowling Night sp, Paranormal sp
    3. Open for Business - Get to Work, Businesses & Hobbies, Dream Home Decorator
    4. Pets - Cats & Dogs, Cottage Living, Horse Ranch, Werewolves, My First Pet sp
    5. Seasons - Seasons, Eco Lifestyle, Spooky sp, Romantic Garden sp
    6. Bon Voyage - Island Living, Snowy Escape, Outdoor Retreat, Spa Day, Jungle Adventure, StrangerVille, Journey to Batuu
    7. FreeTime - High School Years, Growing Together, Parenthood, My Wedding Stories, Movie Hangout sp, Nifty Knitting sp, Kids Room sp, Fitness sp, Crystal Creations sp, Cool Kitchen sp, Home Chef Hustle sp
    8. Apartment Life - City Living, For Rent, Realm of Magic, Toddler sp, Laundry Day sp, Tiny Living sp

    The Sims 1:

    1. Livin' Large/Livin' It Up - Get to Work, Discover University, High School Years, Businesses & Hobbies, StrangerVille, Journey to Batuu, Dream Home Decorator, Spooky sp, Fitness sp
    2. House Party - Get Together, For Rent
    3. Hot Date - City Living, Lovestruck, Dine Out, My Wedding Stories, Bowling Night sp
    4. Vacation/On Holiday - Island Living, Snowy Escape, Outdoor Retreat, Jungle Adventure
    5. Unleashed - Cats & Dogs, Seasons, Eco Lifestyle, Cottage Living, Growing Together, Horse Ranch, Parenthood, Laundry Day sp, My First Pet sp
    6. Superstar - Get Famous, Spa Day, Luxury Party sp, Vintage Glamour sp
    7. Makin' Magic - Life & Death, Vampires, Realm of Magic, Werewolves, Romantic Garden sp, Paranormal sp, Crystal Creations sp

The rules here were simple: first put in the packs that had elements contained in the pack in question and then go ahead and think of other combinations.

  • I think there would need to be purpose to the combinations, like to expand on gameplay features. Letting those packs work together better.

Life and Death, combined with vampires for example seems ideal. Like it was meant to be one expansion. Combining it could allow for some interesting new content for vampires related to morning, death and funerals. Like maybe some sims might want to prove the deceased at a funeral is not a vampire. Vampires could maybe get some very different stuff regarding the soul journey, like when becoming a vampire they could have a journey to actually obtain a soul or choose to be without.

  • I liked the way atteya33 combined the packs.  At one time luxury party stuff and perfect patio did have unique game play items.  I can’t tell you how many times I used the buffet tables.  I used them in various community lots, and with well to do sims during parties, and I did like some of the dress wear in the pack, though wedding stories had much better dress wear, but came at a much later date.  Also, I have always liked how stuff packs invigorated my game with always having a new gameplay item, clothing, build buy,  and hairstyles.  Not using mods and CC, I always loved getting new hairs….

  • Interesting question. I definitely think certain DLC can be combined under a theme. I think the moment EA began to recycle themes for EP was the moment when many felt we were ready to move on to sims 5.

Seasons stands on it's own, I can't place it anywhere and if feels so essential it should have been basegame

Work: Get to work, businesses and hobbies, Dine out

Supernatural: Realm of Magic, Werewolves, Vampires, Get to work, Life and Death, Paranormal, Crystal Creations, Romantic garden (wishing well) spooky stuff

Animals: Cats and dogs, Horse Ranch, Cottage living, my first pets stuff

Family and generations: Growing together, Life and Death, Parenthood, kids room stuff, toddler stuff, nifty knitting

    Education: University, High school years

Holidays/Vacation and adventure: Island Living, Snowy escape, Outdoor retreat, Jungle adventures, Strangerville, Batuu

Hangout with friends: Get together, bowling night, movie hangout, backyard stuff

City and apartments: City living, for rent

    Love: lovestruck, my wedding stories

Realism and lifestyle: eco lifestyle, dream home decorator, laundry day, tiny living, bust the dust, cool kitchen, home chef hustle, fitness

Fame and luxury: Get famous, spa day, vintage glamour, Moschino

No unique gameplay: luxury party, perfect patio, all kits except bust the dust

    Notes:

    • These are all my personal feelings. Others might disagree
    • seasons stands on it's own, I can't place it anywhere and if feels so essential it should have been basegame
    • Get to work and life and death are mentioned twice because they feel like hybrid packs with occult and realism combined. Both offer and occult. Why not the same for Island living? Island living only offers one minor occult. Get to works adds an alien world to visit and a scifi active career. Also kudos for including alien forms for younger age groups, which is sorely missed for mermaids. Life and Death offers a spooky neighborhood to live in, rebirth, tarot collection and an active career. Island living offers nothing for mermaids except their bare existence. Even for their gravestone they had to rely on life and death.
    • No unique gameplay: luxury party and perfect patio lost their meaning then their objects were added to other packs and base game. This entire category should not exist in my opinion, but it does.
    • supernaturals seem well represented but in sims 2 and 3 there was something supernatural found in every pack, with a massive supernatural EP in sims 3 as cherry on the cake. They were sprinkled throughout the entire DLC which I preferred. The occults in sims 4 are great but the pure realistic content droughts in between are awful. I preferred the sims 2 and sims 3 approach. I hope game packs can return.
