For me, the biggest disappointment is the world. It's got a cool name, but a lame design by the looks of it.
Why couldn't we have had an atmosphere similar to Forgotten Hollow, Moonlight Falls or Midnight Hollow? Why is it always sunshine and rainbows huh? It kinda looks like there's a small secluded part of the world that's more spooky and eerie, but the rest is just the same old, colourful, vibrant, and overly perfect looking world. Occult players are crying out for a full-sized world with a darker vibe to it. Why is this always overlooked?
I don't even care about gameplay anymore. I know it will be half-baked content and probably have no replay value whatsoever.
All I cared about was the world with this expansion, and it's already a let down.

The trailer was filmed without weather effects. With Seasons installed, I think the weather will be more moody, especially during the colder seasons. Even Forgotten Hollows has sunny weather during the summer season.

Forgotten Hollow is still gloomy, even without Seasons and during the Summer. It doesn't get very bright, and the colour palette is mostly greys and earth tones.
I don't think Ravenwood is going to have similar atmosphere, at all.

I love dark European worlds Carpathian Mountains. ❤️

I still can't create families without them wanting to kill themselves with overbearing fears that are impossible to remove(thanks lovestruck) so I proably won't be playing the expansion. I probably won't ever buy a expansion for this game again unless EA can get their stuff straight. The game is fundamentally broken but everyone seems fine with it as long as creative mode works, but, I'm not and I hope everyone on the Sims 4 team quits and finds better jobs.

I know that the death gameplay will be buggy at first.😭 So while I'll wait for it to be fixed, I will be enjoying the Ravenwood World. The Ravenwood has a Medieval/Victorian vibe to it & I so love historical worlds.😍 Also, I've noticed some Medieval outfits in the new pack. I'm so excited.🤩

The trailer was interesting but I think we need a lot more information. The gameplay trailer and the developer livestream should help. If not, the embargo lifting for the EA Gamechangers will also make a difference.
Will deaths be updated where death in a bed like in the trailer can occur? Will we see the essence of a sim leave their body? The current base game death when sims die of old age is pretty sad, they just fall down on the ground and become an urn.
What is the playable Grim Reaper career? Is it like the career from Paranormal Stuff Pack? I don't want a reskinned version of that.
I saw that the specters from the paranormal stuff pack have already been reskinned and are in this pack. We already had haunted houses in Paranormal Stuff pack, but I see it listed as a feature here in this EP.
Funerals look like Weddings from My Wedding Stories which wasn't working until this last patch that we got. Even though it still isn't 100% work reliable, as sims still did not sit where they were supposed to. The English Simmer did a video to see if weddings have improved based on this latest patch but some guests still did not sit down, someone ate the cake before the wedding started, and the officiant portion did not work. So if they can't get working weddings, and the funeral system is going to to be very similar (set lists of activities, location and time, dress code/color, etc), I don't see how these can function.
I don't like playable ghosts being locked behind a paywall. In previous sims games, ghosts were playable from the jump. We didn't even get ghosts from day 1 in the Sims 4, it was eventually patched in. They could have patched in the option for playable ghosts, even if they leave some of the features to haunt or help the living out.

What do you mean by playable ghosts being locked behind a paywall? You can make ghosts playable in two ways:
- Befriend a ghost (relationship must be high, almost max), and ask them to move in.
- When testingcheats are enabled, you can simply shift-click on the ghost's gravestone and add them to the household.
And the ghost is then part of your household. And you can control them like any other sim. And they have special interactions too (with some deaths giving even more new interactions).
So, playable ghosts are not locked behind a paywall. They can be playable since they were added in.

Only in The Sims 3 and The Sims 2 for console versions only. The Sims 3 required your sim to complete an opportunity to add a ghost to the household. In The Sims 2 console games, sims that died immediately became a ghost you could control and their goal was to get resurrected.
The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 for PC didn't feature playable ghost. The Sims 1 did feature a charm that made your sim a ghost temporarily though.

I'm sorry but neither TS1 nor TS2 featured playable ghosts at any point.

I'm not into playing ghosts and the grim reaper job is not quite my grail, but I'm still sort of liking he new pack. My biggest concern is that playing rotationally most of the content seems a tad too detailed. I'm not even sure the Bucket List can be a thing in my game. I hope there won't be nested actions spanning several weeks per sim, because such features I never get to see in my game. I still have not seen anything relating to the lifestyle feature, thanks to my never resting rotation. Hoping the death/will/funeral stuff will work on rotation. There's plenty of smaller features that I expect to be available to just any sim at any time, like the crows and the tarot deck, graveyards and the beautiful world. I hope residential lots will not be restricted to the main hood, so a map will be even more interesting for this pack. I certainly need to learn more before I become negative ;)

This whole new Life & Death pack sounds like another round of game-breaking bugs coming on the way.
The whole idea of reincarnation and living as another person feels like it's going to blow up with game issues.

I'm a meat eater. When I shop for meat, I want the best quality locally sourced products. Farms in my area sell good quality meat.
When I play a game, I want the best quality upgraded products. Don't sell me products that are dressed up and outdated because the base engine couldn't handle it 9 yrs ago.
I want fresh gameplay, new gameplay...This new EP is basic gameplay fixing the base game that has been lacking since the beginning.
Not impressed with EA at all. 🙂

Miataplaywhen I first started reading this, I thought you were a bot, lol. Why is this character trying to sell meat randomly in the middle of an EP review?

LOL! 😂 I am real and this meat is rancid...uh oh.. 🤭This is a food critique 👀
edit: That one Backfired! LOL! 😂🤪😮

My biggest complaint is once again how many more bugs it has added to the game , EA still cannot be bothered doing a peoper play test as i came across a lot within my first days play without even trying to find them , Ea say sims 4 is going to go on and on , but the way the bugs are building up it will die the death sooner rather than later . Months now where EA cannot even bother to fix bugs with dates or the knitting but constantly churn out fixes for hairs that have messed up
- SimmervilleSeasoned Ace
My only complaint after playing for a couple days - and not being that much into souls and grims, is the blinking/spinning and annoying new icon in CAS suggesting that every sim I create must be a ghost or other occult. I really hope this blinking will be gone shortly, before it drives me nuts...
- atreya33Seasoned Ace
I agree. Those two buttons shouldn't be pulsating for every sim. I really love to have those options, especially the one to switch occult status, but I don't need them for every single sim. They don't need to pulsate or blink all the time.

Dang! That would ppppiss me off.

I'm not really negative, but not so positive anymore after the trailer.
First of all, I'm glad that there will finally be an expansion pack with a new idea after all the endless recycled stuff from previous Sims editions. I can hardly remember a pack in those ten years that contained something really new and creative (the only exception might be My Wedding Stories - I guess that's something that didn't exist in this form in Sims 1 – 3).
Based on the trailer, I'm now getting the idea that it will be something recycled again, but this time from previous Sims 4 packs: the aforementioned My Wedding Stories, Realm of Magic and Paranormal Stuff. Maybe there's more, but that's what I recognized from the trailer. So, my anticipation for something “brand new” has been dampened a little.
Regarding the reaper game play, I’m not overly excited. I play static: no births, no deaths, aging off, and I’m still playing (most of the time) the save I’ve started in September 2014. Grim is basically unemployed in my game. And because of that, there won’t be more to do for him after the pack was released.
To me it will be another Strangerville, Journey to Batuu or For Rent, because I also never played the story arcs or the new game play features of these packs (same as the Get to Work careers or the MWS options).
I will buy the pack because of the new world – as always. I need more space for my builds. Ravenwood is looking nice with the different height levels and is not so flat like most of the worlds we got before. Unfortunately, it also doesn’t look brand new. To me it looks like a combination of Windenburg and Tartosa without the sea/shores. And I guess that there will be again a lot of shells and static deco (and of course the inevitable rabbit hole) with only some few usable lots scattered around.
