I'm extremely disappointed that the color wheel is a mod. I only play vanilla due to the fact that my computer rejects any mods. I've been saying for years that the devs need to remember Sims 3 color wheels & put it back into Sims 4.
DON'T EXPECT THE MODDERS TO DO YOUR JOB. :(
Unfortunately, it was the color wheel that clogged up many a computer with sluggish gameplay, etc. I play on a gaming rig (and always have) but even my brand new one, bought prior to Sims4, so I was still playing Sims 3, couldn't handle the load. While I would love to be able to customize the color tones I my Sims' hair, it's not worth it in the long run to me to have the game run slow. - LiELFSeasoned AceIt's not a color wheel, it's sliders. But I do like the sliders system with custom swatches better than a color wheel so if they did add this as official content, I wouldn't mind.
- So I am not the biggest fan of Pixelade. I do watch his vids for news but personally I feel like he focuses more on what he wants and pushes his own opinions more then he should.
That said I am glad to see that someone is taking the time to do this but I do believe that the community is hyping this up more then they should. From my understanding this isn't a huge change to the core game but actually turning on a function, flipping a switch, so hair and clothing can use the sliders. Not trying to downplay their effort though as going through every piece of content so that they can use the sliders is a long process but again this isn't as groundbreaking as the guy who made that openworld mod. - logionXSeasoned HotshotI don't know if Maxis ever said that a color wheel was technically impossible...
I have always thought that it was a question about resources. Maxis could probably go back and add a color wheel to all their clothing, the question is rather if it's worth it. I think we are close to almost 1000 CAS items in the game with all the packs. - So I think the easiest thing for them to add sliders too would be hair but I can see why they haven't done so or are holding back from allowing the use of sliders on hair.
The way that models and textures work in ts4 doesn't really allow sliders to be use as detailed as players may want. The models are one piece and every part use the same texture map. An example would be the the Day of the Dead hair, the one with the flower crown. That is all one texture map. So if you use the slider on the that hair not only would you change the hair but also the flowers and ribbons in the hair. Same can be said for clothing items, use the sliders and the whole piece changes color not just one part. Some players may be okay with that while other might complain that they should be able to change one part, ie. a jacket without changing the the shirt underneath. They devs may feel that because of this limitation it is best to not allow sliders on hair/clothing at least for the time being.
The same can be said for objects. Want to change the color of the wood on a bed? Well you'll also end up change the color of the blanket, pillow, mattress, and any other piece that may be a part of that bed. - The mod is out now on Patreon and I bought access so I wanted to share a few screenshots!

It's includes all EA hairs and some cc works but most doesn't yet. I also found that it doesn't count as CC if you use this mod so you can upload sims with edited hair to the gallery - devs should eventually add them as well. the supposed thing stopping them was the game coding but they showed it's indeed possible with skintones so it would be a bit weird to not add them to the rest of cas now that even modders managed to do it.

Really nice that they are not considered CC. I assume they show up in other people's games with the original hair color?
I haven't checked but I assume it'd just go back to the regular colour, if they have the mod aswell I'm not sure.
One other thing I've found is that the mod adds opacity sliders to all clothes which is incredibly useful. A lot of items in this game are too colorful but if you slightly lower the opacity they become much more muted and usable!https://i.ibb.co/qjzgHXw/01-17-21-7-54-00-PM.png

- I’m thinking of downloading this, but my game’s slow enough already. :s
