I would not mind rabbit holes as a way to have my sims have more to do while I am away on another lot, like more away actions. It is a good way to not have your sims stand idle on a lot and do nothing while you are playing someone else.
I would not, however, want to have rabbit holes as solutions to have stuff to do while I am at home with my household though. Rabbit holes are too often just used as poor solutions for features that people want to do in the game. They are nothing more than your sim, standing invisible on the lot followed by some text where we are supposed to pretend that our sim is doing something.
