My Sims 4 Game & OneDrive
I just wanted to post this because I had a problem with OneDrive and the Sims 4. Last year I lost all of my game saved files because when OneDrive synced the Documents Folder it created a duplicate folder and when I launched the game I found that both files--the duplicate and the other one, had deleted all my saved family files. This is a OneDrive issue I'm sure and not a Sims 4 problem because it only happened after syncing both times. The game files weren't corrupted--they were deleted. I started with a new family and signed out of OneDrive--which I don't need because I use Dropbox on another drive for backups. After playing with my new families I created, I backed up the entire Sims 4 folder several weeks ago. After an update Windows, without my permission, turned syncing back on. All the game save files were gone. The game thought I was a first time player and offered me all these tutorials. Because of For Rent bug, I had done this backup originally. I thought my games were safe. I had to copy the save files from 3/20 and my families were back. I will do a backup every month to be safe. I lost over 2 weeks of game progress; but at least I didn't lose everything.
I don't know if any of you experienced this. You can tell OneDrive not to back up the documents folder--but I decided to detach the OneDrive from the cloud. I didn't want to move the Sims folder to another directory, but I'm considering this. My solution after the detachment was to uninstall OneDrive completely (after research) so even if Windows reinstalls it against my will--it's still detached with my preference is not to backup the documents folder if Microsoft tries to force it on me. I don't like it when they don't give users a choice of what to do on their own computers.
The point I'm trying to make is, back up your Sims 4 folder outside of your documents folder. Make sure to upload your families and buildings to the gallery and library. If you're low on disk space you can buy an inexpensive thumb drive. I hope this is useful information--if I couldn't have restore my games I would have had to start from scratch again.
