Nails - good but lacking? (added link to my 18 reds+pinks recolors)

I'm busy adding nail polish to most of my grown up females. At least for their formal or party wear, and the option actually helps me developing their personality. Top notch of the society avoid any extremity, poor sims might skip it or choose something a tad boring and the celebs will normally go bold - but not all of them (I've not added Judith Ward's nails yet... she might surprise me although bright red comes to mind).

I have a mini mini complaint. In real life there are hundreds of variety of reds and pinks for nails. In TS4 we have 1 red and 1 pink??? What happened to bright pink, plum red, and anything in between? I'm happy with the pale pinks&greys which are perfect for my nobles. Sims going for red or pink are not so happy though, as there are many outfits you simply can't match with the nail polish. For lipstick we got many dark-dark red, which I love adding to mysterious mature women, who are not mysterious enough to wear black. Besides, dark reds often look great even on less mysterious women. I hope we will get more variety for solid one color options, especially in the colors we often use and need fine tuned, not so much in the blue an green department.

I also wonder if the grey/light pink that is default for most one color nail options, is meant to be the natural color? When I add a bit lengthy nails for formal and party, I really find it weird if my sim should cut her nails when exercising or sleeping (no nails at all), so I added the default for when I want them to have nails but no polish. In a way I would preferred (global) nail size to be set separately from (per outfit) polish color/design. I'm talking CAS, as it seems like "what happens at the spa, stays at the spa".

I assume we can't create CC recolors in TS¤ Studio yet, or are there already CC colors? If I got 3 more reds and 2 more pinks I'd be happy ;)

All in all I love the nails, I used 2 CC nail polish that will now be replaced.

Added: I just created a set of 18 additional nail recolors for the new nail system - they are for the medium nail length, and they require the Spa Day pack.

It would have been nice to be able to use the same sliders we have for makeup and skin tones to change the shades of the nail polish.

I love, love the nails in Base & Spa Day. <3 B) I would also love for the color slides to be in nails.
I would love more pointy with longer nails in Base please. ;) ;)

After looking at the nails that comes with the refresh, I think I'll keep my cc nails, no offense. :)

The first time I tried to put the new nails on a sim's fingers, it caused colourful stripes on the sim's top like sloppy cc with overlapping textures. I figured, okay, maybe it's just this one top, let's go with simple nails for the everyday outfit and save the elaborate ones for more festive getups.

The same thing happend with every outfit that sim wore, and none of them were cc. Haven't used the official nails again since, and switched back to cc nails that don't have this problem. So yeah, I'd say the official nails are indeed lacking - in quality, in testing. As usual.

Can you believe 84% (122 votes) in the poll, are extremely happy and think Maxis went above and beyond with this refresh. :(

I'm actually fine with the nail options as they are, at least for the clothes that's not affected by that bug. I do wish they'd have made sure the nails were done properly, even if it is time consuming to check all those CAS tops/outfits.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that one outfit was picking up the nail color on a small part of the dress, but I can live with that as there are more clothing options than I'll ever use. But learning this is the case with several outfits, I hope it will get addressed.

The lack of reds and pinks is my biggest concern. Besides, I would wish the color options to be the same regardless of nail length. In RL I assume color is more important than the exact length. I would like more focus to be on the regular nails (colors) than so many super long nails (that I will hardly ever use) - still love the possibility to get super long design nails, just think these options could have bee better balanced. Don't understand why nails don't have the same color/saturation options as make up do.

Getting rid of my cc nails anyway, as I hate having to choose between nail polish or bracelet or left hand ring or whatever ;)

Once S4S gets updated, if it isn't yet, at least the CC nails have their own slots. I do agree with the colors but I'm also one who keeps her nails short. I always had to for work or my daughter in her younger days... and then there's also a certain unbroken habit I have. :* Recolors aren't too hard so maybe some "lazy" simmer might do some recolors and add more options.

@Cinebar that's not surprising. We got quite a bit of new content for free.

A new trait and three new mini aspirations.

So why don't you consider coming out of retirement and give it all a try? Experience first hand why many are pleased with this first refresh.
