I was having a thought in reference to immersion. It used to be I watched programming with commercial breaks. About twenty years ago we threw out our TV and later bought a monitor, DVD player and a conversion box. For years the only things I watched were on that player, sans commercials. Then streaming came along and I found that I could no longer bare watching commercials because it completely broke the immersion in the show. I've not played TS2 for years and years by now, probably around mid 2008. Now I'm wondering if I tried playing it again if loading screens would do the same thing to me as commercials do. I'm thinking they may not have as drastic of an effect because they're not something else going on like a commercial is, but I think it would be pretty close to the same thing. Sometimes I think some of these ideas like breaking immersion are nothing more to try to justify poor decisions.
I'd like that post more than once if I could :)
I'm the same way with TV, in fact I almost never watch it and watch Netflix because of that, and Netflix isn't even all that good it just has no commercials. When TV was free I could understand commercials used to pay for programming, but now that I pay for it, why would I watch commercials?
Gaming companies have been trying to get away from loading screens for years, so I am just baffled as to why the Sims 4 has them. If anyone of the developers had read any gaming forum they would have seen that loading screens are one of the biggest complaints, usually not far behind unfixed bugs.
