Opinions on the update

Let me start with it's like you have your kid failing a subject in school and they draw you refrigerator art in hopes you forgot they are failing Math French English or some other subject and of course as a parent, you're going to praise the picture they drew and proudly display it but you'll be disappointed that they would rather play video games and other things rather than catching up or asking for you to help them with a subject they are failing.

That is what this update made me think of from the response the community has had.

First I can see what people are complaining about with skintones. It's still blotchy and needs vast improvement. This is something that should have been started 6 years ago with the very first complaint. When it was brought up by Black Simmers and White Game Changers saying something about it being bad form. They should havesaid this is a project we are still working on to create more diversity in the sims. We are running into these problems. If anyone here has some sugestions then give us a link to help out with the project. Pay us for their time. I like the female hairstyle but the afro for the male could use better texture.

Now for what I loved. I love the content we got in honour of Hispanic/LatinX Hertiage month. My latest sim wears the butterfly jacket and I am really enjoying all the added content done. I would have liked to have had some more Hispanic/LatinX Presets and skintones for Hispanics and LatinX but am genuinely happy with what we got. Thank you for that part of the update. My favourite is the butterfly jacket for our female sims. I love that my sims have some beautiful fun decor. I love anytime we get new recipes for our sims to enjoy and learn. That is where I say thank you and know I'm going to use all these CAS and build/buy items a lot in my game. I look forward to every culture being celbrated in the Sims.

  • Set the table with placemats and cutlery where you prefer to have your Sims sit and eat. They will grab a serving then sit and finish their meal. Works like a charm. And there are several different place settings to choose from. Not sure if this option came in a certain pack or an update though. I've been using this trick for years. As for putting dishes in the dishwasher, Sims do seem to learn by being directed to clean up over time. However, I use a mod that prevents anyone from leaving the table and automatically clearing the dirty dishes. I rather enjoy having couples and families sitting for a bit and chatting after meals. And the dishwasher is rather useless as it can't wash more than one dish at a time. I use another mod called the 'Eco Dishwasher' from LittleMisSam that allows the dishwasher to be loaded ten times before it initiates the wash cycle.

Traianing? How can you train a sim to eat at the dining table? All very odd. My TS2 sims eat at their tables instinctively.

It's why it remains number one in my book. It seems TS4 players are always having to fight the game to get it to do what it should be doing. Cheating, mods, 'fixes', and dishwashers that can't handle a stack of dirty dishes. Geez, I'm so glad I never uninstalled my TS2. Updates that celebrate Hispantic heritage month but only offer things of one sect of hispantics, what about the rest. Are people in the Dominican Republic celebrating what people from Cuba celebrate, etc. As if all Hispantics are the same. :o

They did say sims will eat at the table now. Anyone notice this, or are they just telling us stories?

Not at first, but with enough training they are starting to sit down to eat on their own. Each household I go into seems to have some initial confusion but it does improve.

I'm not so sure about this "Training" you're talking about, I always direct my sims to eat at a table since they were kids and they never did it autonomously even after they aged up to adult. they loved eating infront of the fridge or getting outside to say hi to strangers while eating.
  • I was saying I’ve noticed sims eating in front of the fridge just after updating, but then I clicked “sit” and they sat. The next time they would eat, they’d be more likely to sit on their own. I used the word “training” to describe this. ?‍♀️
  • I had a look at TS2 skins yesterday to see if they were as bad as people say TS4 skins are, and yes, they are. Have to be honest. Some are too orange around the hairlines, checks, (lower jaw) and across the breastbone on the neck and the cheeks are whiter/lighter than they should be. But I don't recall all the backlash about skins back then. I have never liked most of Maxis skins including those of European desent. In all the games. I really don't like those in TS4 because in TS2 they are too brown, like a tan, and in TS4 they are too yellowish, greenish. I have always thought custom creators have always done a better job on skins and why I stopped using Maxis skins twenty years ago and used modder skins. And I see there are still complaints about the ones they did release in the patch. They have never done an excellent job on skins or makeup in my opinion. No offense to them but it's not just black skintones but all of them that should have been improved all these years. The one thing I did like about TS4 was they did create a darker skin tone for black Sims than the tan, orangey tone in TS2 which was bascially a tanned Sim with orange tones.
  • I've only seen these on social media, not in the game yet, but I am glad to have the update. I like the building items and new foods.

Recently, I've been playing GF/actor sims so I'm not yet where I will use this but I have LatinX households that will appreciate these items along with other sims. This will also make Selvadorada more interesting because other households can learn these recipes and bring them back with them.

    I appreciate the update.
  • They did say they improved the skintones, but I have noticed a blotchy/weird area between the eyebrows. The blotchiness isn't as obvious, but there should still be improvements. I did like the Hispanic update, but the recolored jacket was a lazy move on their part. As for the hairs, I don't think the round cauliflower hair had any change, but the other hairstyle looked different and would be nice to put on Sims of color. My complaint, still, is that my favorite default skin hasn't been updated yet. I did go for another one that has been updated, yet I wonder if the readers on my Simlit blog would notice any difference if I still use the other default skin by next week or so.
