@aricarai Very curious what the Twitter results say, if it corresponds or not.
I shall post them when it's done in about 4 hours!- I played Sims 4 on a laptop in low graphics mode for two years until I had saved up enough for a good desktop. But Sims 4 wasn't even the main reason to get a new desktop - being able to play a mod heavy Sims 2 without crashing/freezing was.
- ehaught58New NoviceI have purchased a new computer for every version of the Sims that came out since the beginning of the franchise. That is how I gauge when it is time for a new computer! :)
- cynconzola8New SpectatorBack during The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, I did so routinely. For this game? nope
- If a pack came out that upped the system requirements beyond what my current computer can handle and actually had some really juicy, meaningful additions to gameplay in Live Mode, sure, I'd buy a new computer for that. Currently, I'm planning on buying a new gaming laptop at some point for some other games I'm interested in, so I am willing to upgrade if it really seems worth it. But...the thing is, like buying a new game console, it has to be worth the investment. So far, the one Expansion Pack that upps the system requirements ("Cats and Dogs") doesn't add enough to be worth upgrading for that alone.
- I bought a new computer for The Sims 2 when that came out but this also made it possible for me to enjoy other games too. For the Sims 2 I also needed to use a good video editing and photo editing programme, which also needed good specs. I wouldn't buy a new computer for The Sims 4 if I needed to though.
- Yes. I actually just had this discussion with my husband. Our current laptop is starting to show its age. All i play on it is Sims and 2 other games.(Civ 5 and Cities Skylines) sims has gotten super laggy and stuttery for me. I don't think the graphics card can keep up anymore, so we may be doing some computer shopping in a couple months.
- The Sims isn't the only game I play, so dishing out for a new system just for the Sims is not going to happen.
If there was multiple games I had/wanted that needed a new system I would.(If I had the $ saved)
However, I tend to upgrade my pc anyways, because I use it for a lot of things aside from entertainment (i.e my work and school) because of this I have never needed to worry about my computer being upgraded for a sims game.
Edit: clarity - alanmichael1Seasoned HotshotI did this for each iteration since 2004.

I got a new computer to play the sims 4. I wouldn't have gotten such an expensive desktop or one with these features if I did not want to play the sims 4. But I also did not have a computer or laptop and was entering school again. So that's how I tried to justify my decision to myself. But sims 4 was the reason I went for a desktop instead of getting a laptop, like I originally wanted.
