Please Help Me Decide … Do I:

I was so very excited about Cottage Living and the possibilities it presented that I thought, surely this would help keep my attention so that I could play my Ancestral game save, instead of constantly restarting. Sadly, I'm finding that farm life is so much harder than I imagined. In fact, it's taking up most of the gameplay. Although John has met and fallen in love with Sarah Jane, I'm either too impatient to have them wed, or something. I just know that about an hour or two into my gaming session, my attention wanders like never before. (We'll never get to the wedding at this rate!)

So, I am seriously contemplating going back to my Main Save, since all but one mod (the 21 day Seasons, instead of 28 days mod hasn't been given the all-clear). It should be pointed out I was having loads of fun with this save, and it was hard to pull away from it.

Here's where I need your input. Please, and thank you, in advance.

  • Whenever my mind wanders, I want to switch it up. That would be my vote. I wouldn't strictly put it on a timer, though, like one hour here and one hour there. I hop between live mode, CAS, and BB all the time. Not to mention saves. If all else fails, start a new one.

Sometimes I just get sick of my family's current issues and start designing a new house (inevitably based around them, it seems, but I digress) or updating older Sims in my library in CAS (or updating library builds).

I bounce around a lot, but I still have my original save from my first family ever in 4. Some saves I just do not cut ties with. So I definitely think there is room for bouncing.

As for CoL, I really like it. My animals don't feel too needy, but I raise an IRL flock of hens. (I think they are easier than raising dogs, IRL.) Plus my Sims tend to autonomously tend to at bare minimum the cow. It doesn't hurt to cut back if you have a lot, though.
  • @Sindocat, I said the Eighteenth Century. You know when the American Revolutionary war broke out. We're talking the 1700s here, not the 1800s. Yes, girls did, indeed, to to school in the 1800s, just not in the 1700s, unless like I stated, they went to Dame School.

I have broken the chores down between the house occupants. If there are no children then it's not an ancestral game save. I'm playing my ancestors. If none of them had kids, I wouldn't be here. ;)

But, that's okay. I have decided to continue playing them, and if I get bored, I will switch game saves. Easy-peasy. I just thought this new pack would be much more fun than it's turning out to be. I don't regret having it, not by a long shot, and eventually I will find the rhythm needed to make it all work. After all, they did it in the past, families and all.

Thank you for your input. :)

Darnit, I still confuse "Eighteenth Century" and "1800s" in my head, and I do know better.

My Quaker granny is appeased - but still tut-tutting that there should be schools for them. Horace Mann had better hurry up and get born quick! ;)

And now I am off on a tangent, reading up on the history of public education. Those wacky Puritans!

It wasn't just the Puritans. Life in that time frame clearly shows it was a Man's World. Unmarried women had more rights than a married one, believe it or not. A married woman couldn't own land, for instance, or a business. Most often, if a father wanted to leave land to his daughter, it was given to her husband, if he approved of the man, otherwise, he gave it to her heirs. A widow quite often married again, so that she and her children had security. I laugh out loud at the women of today talking about being suppressed. They have no idea, not even a clue. In the 19th century, more and more women refused to wed, preferring the rights as unmarried women they had. Shows you something, doesn't it?
